Yup that's right what an idiot. I did this about 2 weeks ago and my hand hurts. I spoke to a friend who thinks I might have chipped a bone. I know I need to get it checked out but I'm rather embarrassed about it all

Ugh - no fun! I'm sorry you're in pain. When I get overwhelmed, I frequently get the impulse to let it all out physically - sometimes in a scream, sometimes hitting something. Nothing like the constant, painful reminder of losing your cool weeks after you did it. Definitely worth it to get it checked out, though. You don't want the weeks of pain to turn into months or, worse, long-term damage.

Even though the pain will probably pass on its own you should still get it
checked out to make sure there is no serious damage.

Lie about how it happened! They don't need to know you punched a door.

(((((((((MissLaura))))))))) Well, that sucks! Embarrassing, yes, but you are certainly not the first to have smashed their hand into a wall. So I'm sure it wouldn't be anything new to your doctor. I personally wouldn't see much point to lying about it. (There are far more embarrassing things. Hmmm, yes, thinking of some now, lol. )

I'm more prone to slapping them down hard and kicking. Not proud of that, but it's a well-established fact. Regardless the flavor, these kinds of things can hurt like hell(!) You should get it looked at. Good luck, sweetie.
