Few days back my right arm was having this dark purplish bruise out of a sudden and also there were small rashes on my chest. I tried to tough it out, thinking it is nothing to worry. But my therapist requested me to speak to the doctor about this since it appeared right after my flu and fever for 2 weeks.
So I've consulted with my doc and he was really concerned. He couldn't tell if it was Steven Johnson rash, but it seems concerning. I kept saying it should be nothing since it did not spread to my entire body in the last 4 days. I told him I'm willing to take the risk because this med was really a life changer for me, until he pleaded me to take a new medicine called Lithium.

Just when I thought, "this is it, found my cure".. This would be my 4th time changing medication. I'm utterly annoyed and frustrated.. What if lithium doesnt work for me too? I heard lithium is good for preventing Mania. I want something to prevent my depression and anxiety, which lamictal did. Sigh.. This sucks.

I agree -- it can be very frustrating

I think it's fairly common for BP people to go through lots of med changes. I think it's mostly because this disease manifests itself in different ways in people. It's just so hard to find the right cocktail, especially when certain meds poop out on you after some time.

As far as depression goes, what about trying Latuda? It worked well for me and my insurance dropped the price down to $30 a month. I'm not taking it anymore, though. Made me too drowsy... but not everyone gets that effect

Medicine changes usually involve tweaking the cocktail. This ends up involving maxing out the dosage of the meds. Rarely does a medicine have no effect or unpleasant side effects. But there was a time I went through allot of medications that did not work. Later I found the problem was with the pdoc prescribing the medication.

I have found that I have had to change meds due to break through episodes and depending how the moods occur. Most often I go manic then mixed and have had been prescribed depakote and seroquel or more recently saphris to put the brakes on the manic/mixed. ..then I crash into depression and have been prescribed an antidepressant (have tried Latuda couldn't deal with the nausea esp since I was throwing up the other meds that were necessary)...once I stabilize for several months I usually will go back to lamictal and saphris for maintenance. I take it as a given that I am going to change meds depending on what state I am in my illness.

I feel like I'm just wasting my time doing this. All I wanted was to treat my depression. I wish taking anti-depressant wouldn't throw me into hypomania state and lead me to this endless cycle of "finding the cure"... Yeah I know it's common for BP peeps. I just wish there were continuous research being done to find the cure asap. I'm even willing to donate my money for this(in the future when I'm making a living that is). You guys taking quite a few meds, hopefully its working out for the better. Well I'll try to press on and find the right cocktail for me.

Thanks for the recommendation I just started on Lithium(been 3 days). So if it doesn't work on me, I'll suggest my pdoc if I should try Latuda.
