First time I have seen a movie dedicated to our disorder. I am BP2 and the movie focuses more on Bp1 even though I think Katie Holmes character is BP2 but Marco ignites her mania constantly. Anyway, how did you feel about this movie? I liked some things but not others.

I liked some parts and not others. I laughed about Marco's books being all over his room because it looked like something I would do. I get very into books and learning and running with ideas when hypo, so in that way, I could relate. I didn't care for how their families treated them like children though.

I think they did a great job depicting bipolar. Way more real than any othet movie thats been made about soneone with bp. Id give it 3 stars. the one thing ididnt understand was leaving day room open all night. Every hospital I went to closes at certain time lol

I just rented this movie on ITUNES and finished watching it a moment ago. I cried a lot. There were some triggering moments for me and I'm left feeling confused for various reasons. I related to Marco's character more than the female lead but there were also moments where I related to her. I felt the doctors and parents were well intentioned but their behavior was just as damaging and possibly even more destructive than their adult children's. In the end it gets wrapped up nicely and I see why they ended it the way they did but I'm left feeling a bit haunted. I may watch it again later, once I've recovered.....I always see a different side to a movie when I re-watch it.

Thank you for this movie recommendation. I'd never heard of it and really did find it interesting.
Thanks for this!

Finally picking this up on Monday after being on waiting list at library for over a month so I will contribute once I see it, probably next weekend. We are doing a movie a week for discussion?

Glad I was able to introduce some of you to this movie. My fellow BP2 friend suggested I watch it since I just got diagnosed a few weeks ago, though I have had this disorder for 18 years now and just never got diagnosed lol. I also didn't like the way the parents treated them like children. I knew they intended well but the way they went about was just insulting and made them trust their parents and everyone else even less. Trapping them was not a nice thing to do. It is a very emotional watch.

I also really disliked how the hospital pulled them apart. There was no need to completely seperate them. They should have just been supervised more efficiently. The medical professionals over reacted in my opinion which caused them to be restrained and locked in solitary. If they would have handled it better, that never would have happened.
Thanks for this!

I don't know. I mostly feel angry that bipolar is associated with creativity because i am as creative as a sack of hammer.
Thanks for this!

I am in the process of watching it. So far I find it okay. We shall see once I finish it.

Yah, the hospital wasn't realistic in a lot of ways--there is no way they'd have a fully-functioning kitchen complete with stove and silverware accessible to patients. And the amazing books on arts and astronomy rather than the cast off best-sellers and Bibles on most wards.
Not to mention that doctors are not on wards in middle of night at all and would not agree to sit down with someone to discuss records like that.
I didn't think they would be released so soon before the meds had chance to take effect--didn't think it was fair for doctor to blame each other's influence instead of meds not working for them having insomnia and getting even more manic. When I was that manic, I got sent to state hospital for over a month. The hospital is billing for stay so it's not them that's losing money.

I was floored with Kay Jamison's cameo in the movie--didn't think it was normal for her to meet with fans like that but apparently she met with the director when he was diagnosed because his doctor knew her. Powerful words which I assumed she came up with herself rather than memorizing lines.

Thought it was weird no attention or dilemna given to whether medications should be taken during pregnancy. The whole abortion thing seemed rather sudden--the alcohol seemed like the only clue as to what she was doing.
