So, I feel like there's been a disconnect between myself and my pdoc and T. Is it wrong of me to seek a second opinion. In meet with my T this past week she really has me wondering if there's been any progress made. Maybe it's because I'm so quiet and feel shy that I don't do much talking? Ugh, I don't know what to do. I've scheduled an appointment with another pdoc in another practice so maybe I will see how that goes. I'm so confused!

There's nothing wrong with seeking a second opinion! I got 3 opinions because the first 2 said the exact opposite of each other.

First opinion said yes ADHD, no bipolar.
Second opinion said no ADHD, yes bipolar.
Third opinion said both ADHD & bipolar.

I actually think it's *good* to get multiple opinions, but do make sure that whomever is giving you a 2nd opinion has some documentation or something for your original Dx. It's good to have the person analyze the other doctor's decision.

My pdoc actually said on Friday that he wants me to get a second opinion. But he wants me to go to an inpatient mood disorders clinic to do it.

I say keep the appointment and get the second opinion especially if you don't feel a connection with your current pdoc, maybe this will be a better fit

Thanks. I think I've read about a few people seeing more than 1 pdoc at least for a period of time until they figure out which my be the better fit for them, if that makes sense. I plan on keeping the appointment regardless.

It's not that I'm disputing the fact of any diagnosis, I just am not feeling as if I'm progressing at the rate I would like to be. It's mostly the t I have a disconnect with I think. We will just have to wait and see how things go I suppose. I'm the impatient type and I know it's only really been since May that I got my diagnosis, but I've actually been seeing them both since the middle of February. Part of it too is that I always feel my pdoc is in a hurry (he's usually running behind schedule because he travels between two different offices, which doesn't help.)

Second opinions are fine! My pdoc has sent me for second opinions. His thoughts are maybe another pdoc has thought of a way to help me that has not occurred to him. I had a full eval by a neuropsychologist, too. Very comprehensive. Took five days.

I'm quiet but do share my struggles. My last therapist was no reason of a friend. She shared her life which was somewhat encouraging. Although I liked her, she was not helping me. I had to explain this to her and got a different therapist. It's was frightening but necessary.

second opinions are good, my first psych wanted to jack up my antidepressant to see if it triggered mania. I promptly found another psych who did not want to run experiments on me.

Thanks everyone for your input. I'm going to keep the appointment and just see what happens from there. It took me 3 months to get the appointment to begin with.

Can't hurt. I had a substitute psychologist this summer because my regular one was on maternity leave, and I learned so many new things about my illness through working with her. It was a huge benefit.

My pdoc will go to her boss and bring him in and give a second opinion on the spot.

I also have a second pdoc who communicates with my original pdoc bc i felt i was over medicated and they talk on the phone about different options for me.

As far as therapists, i started with 3 and slowly ended with 2 of them when i felt they werent helping as much as the 3rd. I tried one who does talk therapy, one who does cbt and one that does bdt to see which works for me. Dbt works best. I told the other two im trying dbt for a while and if it doesnt work out im welcome back to each of them.

No problem with getting another input. I think my pdoc knew me too well, seeing me every week for months and wasnt able to see the subtle changes that a third party could point out. My big team is awesome! Im glad my family pushed me to seek outisde opinions.

Plus my original pdoc never ordered blood tests, the first thing my second pdoc did was order blood tests and found i have hypothyroid, i thought i was getting depressed. Turns put my low energy was anemia and low thyroid.

Good luck!
