I was looking in to seeing if one of these may be helpful to me. I don't feel like the prozac is working. What was your experience with these drugs?

Effexor worked for me when I was a teen but not when I tried it again as and adult. And the withdrawal is TERRIBLE, even just coming off of 37.5mg. I would never try it again bc of the withdrawal.

I would never ever ever take Effexor .. I have watched so many people go through pure hell getting off that shyt.

I dont know much about Pristq, It must be a decent med since there hasnt been many " it sucks " threads.

I've been on both. I first started off on Pristiq and I thought it worked great. But then the price jumped up and I needed a cheaper option. So I was switched to Effexor. I don't know if my circumstances have changed but I don't think Effexor is that great. And it killed my libido. But I stay on it because I hear withdrawing from it is horrible.

I was put on Effexor several years ago and it did absolutely nothing for me...good or bad. I didn't have withdrawals when I stopped. I guess I was lucky.

Definitely sounds like I don't want to try Effexor, thanks for sharing. Maybe I can talk to my pdoc about Pristiq. I know I need something, this depression is killing me. I was IP with it with thoughts of SH and they upped my lamictal and olanzapene, then added latuda. I'm still sucked into the black void though.

I was on it. It didn't do anything for my depression, and the withdrawal was horrible. Then again, I had a psychiatry resident who didn't know what she was doing and tapered me too quick.

Doesn't matter how fast or slow you taper Effexor, the withdrawal is horrible. Brain zaps, anyone?

Paxil caused horrific brain zaps for me and I feel for anyone who must withdrawal from a med causing them. I've never tried either of these meds to my recollection but wish you luck in your decision.

I was on paxil for about a year then switched to effexor for the past year. It definitely helps with my mood swings. I'm not as short tempered as I am when not on it (paxil worked for me in the mood as I g department just not the depression so much). I am noticing that with effexor, the depression is still in the background and can *trap* me at times but I have more good than bad days with it. There have been a few times where I didn't take it for some reason, no withdrawls but if I go more than 2 days without it, my temper flares more. I guess I am one of the lucky ones who can handle it well. I hope for anyone who is unable to handle it, is able to finally go d something that works for them
Thanks for this!

I was on 200mgs of Pristiq for 8 years. It did work pretty well for most of the time. The withdrawal is horrible though, it has been classed as the worse anti-d to come off. Even forgetting one day can have you paranoid and hallucinate and I have never been psychotic. Your bones will hurt so bad that those awful leg cramps you can get at night will be a welcome dream. I've gone back on Zoloft after a 10yr break and it seems to be going ok, it's always hard to tell when you have so much extra **** happening in your life if a med is working or not.

Has anyone taken Pristq? It is in the same group as effexor.

Effexor XL 300mg worked really well for me for a long time until it stopped working for me. Withdrawal for me was a week or so of brain zaps that were really annoying, but once I got past them it wasn't a problem. It seems like we briefly tried pristiq, but I wasn't on it very long if I remember right (can't remember why -- too long ago).

I took Effexor many years ago. We kept increasing the doasge after it was losing it effectiveness. Did finally make me suicidal. My new
Mental nurse practitioner suggested the DNA testing. Pristiq was on the list of one of the ones that would be good and Effexor was one of the ones that wasn't even though they are chemically similar. I've been on 50 mgs of the Pristiq for a few months now and have been doing well.

Both made me extremely agitated, violent...put me in mixed states and I had bad withdrawal coming off.
