I like the idea of giving them a phamplet, something that says depression.
so they can hear you and read it too.
This way you give them some time to think about it.
Ask directly for their support.
You could sit them down and tell them that you have something very serious to talk about and that if they would please just listen so I can tell you what I need from you.
Another thing, it is ok to ask for hugs.

I am so sorry that you are goingt hrough this.
My mom and family dont want to hear about it. They can only talk about how bad they have it and I cant talk about bipolar becasue they sayy that my psych "needs to see a psych" or that I need to find a second job. People are terrible and sometimes we just need to tell them the truth and decide what happens next.

I hope your family takes it very well and supports you.

You never know. They just might.
