so, the question is.. how polite are you?
I guess i am moderately polite. i'm not rude when asking for something, i usually ask calmly and maybe throw in the odd please/ thank you if the person in question has treated me good. certainly not the queen though. I certainly am not so polite that every other word is please and thank you and now your turn |

In general, I'm polite. I say "thank you", hold doors open for people, etc
Sometimes I'm not polite when I'm depressed, but usually I'm in a "I don't give a ****" mood. It's nothing personal |

I am so damn polite it makes me sick. I think this comes as a result of all the customer complaints that I dealt with as a telephone repairman.

I think I'm pretty polite, except that when I'm hypo I can be easily distracted and have a hard time with conversation - I have to say every thought that comes through my mind right away. Luckily, my husband and closest friends are understanding.
In general, I ask for things with a 'please' and thank people for helping me. I have generally nice table manners. I offer to hold doors and help carry things when I see it would be useful. A friend lives with my family for a few months out of the year for work. We have an Amazon Echo. We tell it to play music or ask for the weather. When she talks to the Echo, she says 'please' and 'thank you' - it cracks me up! |

Well my posts don't reflect it. But, in real life, I am pretty polite. Even when it sickens me to be pleasant to someone who has even harmed be I will be so. It all comes from the Edwardian values my mother drilled into me. I suppose, I find a place such as this to be safe enough to shoot from the hip

I believe I'm pretty polite, I try to always say please.and thank you to people, hold doors etc. The only time I may not be as polite is if I'm in a really bad mood, and even then I'm still kind of polite.

Since I internalize practically everything I am always nice even when I have every right to go off on people.
This has been ingrained in me since I was a small child. Actually something I'm working on it in T , my T and I aren't sure we will make much change due to this being lifelong. We shall seen lol

As a nurse I know what it's like to be unappreciated and sometimes looked down upon by patients and family members, so I try to be polite to everyone I meet. Especially food servers who work so hard, I usually give them a big tip unless the service is truly awful. I say please and thank you, and hold doors open for others too. It just makes life easier and a little more pleasant.

Being from the south and raised in a military family you're pretty much taught to be polite, unfortunately not everyone adheres to that. That being said I would say that I am very polite. I say things like 'yes ma'am' or 'no sir' and even 'thank you', even if it's not expected of me. Like someone else said, if I'm in a depressed mood I may not always adhere to the rules of politeness as it were, but it definitely isn't personal.

I am pretty polite for sure but if the person I am dealing with is not polite
or treats me badly I can be nasty. It is never my first choice and I love to spread smiles and happiness but I don't like being treated poorly and won't stand for it.

I try to be polite and thank people, though I give out a few less thanks when I'm in a bad mood. Last time I was at walmart the dish tv guy came up to me and started to talk, and I looked at him and he stopped talking and jumped back as I proceded down the isle. I must have looked serious at the time.

I've found that being very polite to a rude person messes with their mind. That look of bewilderment on their face amuses me.

I'm as polite as the person deserves.
A nice, considerate person gets nice, polite responses. A rude, negative person get whatever comes out of my mouth

I so polite that I get taken advantage of or worry that people will get pissed off because I said things in the wrong tone or even with boundaries; people think they're not there. I am so polite that it stops me from being myself but people think I'm cute...

I'm very polite and nice.
I don't feel like anyone else is. But I am. I'm surrounded by abnormal people though. I'm way too nice. But considering how abnormal everyone (in RL) is around me it would just make things a million times worse if I wasn't so nice and polite.

I'm trying to figure out how to describe my level of "polite." I've been called intense, formal and creepy, and I'm okay with that. I'm not overly polite, but I'm not rude. I don't get stepped on.

Good thread, man. Politeness hides who you really are. I'm sick of it but I try. It's not merely a mask but a confinement. I'm not depressed, the truth is depressing. It hurts to think about what people do with it. Someone could choose to be polite, and I don't have the same understanding of the choice with others. Face value....
So, it's a good thing that I've just found out that "polite" and "politics" doesn't share the root etymologically, no one wants to go too political with strangers. Just the other day, I was thinking that I wasn't gonna share my age or where I was from with no one no more even if I were to be asked. That got me schizophrenia diagnosis. It was an overgeneralization of a sick mind trying to make connection in this doctor's head. I wasn't, I couldn't be polite on that day, being polite in this country means(not tru...), I gotta pay respect to people's social status, and this kills me inside. It's a tough proposition for anyone to be polite and to be a person who I'm okay with in my eyes. "I'm asking you to be polite." ("Sure, since you asked, you have no idea how smoothly this could be over with if I could punch you in the face and shut you up.") All the randomness aside, what was the question? Respectfully, that is not for me to answer, I can not be polite, excusing myself from a situation that's rough, that's not politeness. what else? Saying please and thank yous? I've just met you and I judge, spend some time with someone and the politeness preferably will be gone, but at that point, it won't matter if someone's being polite or anything else. People wonder about this, so many people don't get this right. It's an useless word for me, if I were being polite, then you'll know that I don't like you that much... I guess I'm being a bit rude? It's a bit too human thing to talk about. I'm over it, you know, with anyone being polite or being rude. Imma step out before I step on you. ![]() ETA: politus: polished, made smooth. It's not for me, they get scratched, man. Figuratively speaking, I cannot see the surface. That sensor is broken on me... Ted Bundy was polite, extremely! Last edited by Takeshi; Sep 15, 2016 at 11:23 PM. Reason: did i get it this time? I'm not on the scale of how much I can be that. Use the word "smooth!". I don't like that word. :p |
