For those here who have experienced delusions, do yours tend to have a "fixed" theme where they tend to be the same? Or are they about all different things? Mine tend to be the paranoid type where I think I'm being investigated or watched during times of mixed mania or about people doing things behind my back to sabotage me. Every now and then I'll get gradiose delusions when manic, but my paranoid delusions tend to be more specific and severe. What are some of your experiences? What has been helpful when it comes to coping and recovering from the effects of the delusions?

Most of my "delusions" have a common thread. Generally being watched, followed, spreading horrible rumors about me. I wrote about some of the aspects in this post.
http://forums.psychcentral.com/schiz...sure-real.html Some of my paranoia has been exacerbated by real events. Last edited by mindwrench; Sep 17, 2016 at 09:58 PM. |

Yes mines tend to be about the police and that they are watching/following me or have bugged me and want special information. I have to say I have never been in trouble with the police so no idea where it comes from

My delusions are most often related to my belief that people are spying on me. (This doesn't happen when I'm stable or depressed, only when I'm manic or mixed.) Then there are the religious ones, where I think I'm sent by God to be in the right place at the right time for someone in need.

My typical manic delusion is that I am and always have been a talented high-functioning member of society, when in fact I am a disabled, damaged casualty. Happens every time.

Mine are very much the paranoid type with people following me / trying to harm me (barring the one time I thought I was an angel sent to heal the world *blush*)

Mine always have the same general theme, but with some variations.

Mine are often about the police arresting me for something that I did not do.
I found that talking to my wife helps a lot in making it stop. Plus I have always been very reasonable and can slowly talk myself out of the delusion. |

I've had one strong delusion. But it had some truth in it. And it was about some abuse I went through. It was scary tho. I don't have delusions anymore now that I'm properly medicated.
Back then I used journaling, soothing music, candles, lavender, grounding skills and my family for support. I did end up in the hospital for a psychosis over it. Before I was properly medicated I then had the delusions. I ended up in the hospital a couple more times over that. Now I make sure I have zyprexa just in case I slip back. |

My delusions are very grandiose rather than paranoid. I used to believe that when I drove up to a car in front of me that it would turn into black smoke and I could drive through it. Four totaled cars later I gave up driving. Most all of my delusions have stopped since I got on Latuda. It really kept me alive.

When manic I have religious delusions where I think I'm communicating with God and angels. When depressed I have the delusion that there is an entity controlling me and forcing me to hurt myself.
