I have been diagnosed BP2. I go through depression and then I have really good days (Mania)? lots of energy , hyper, very talkative, want to be around people, feel confident. When I am in this state i can get easily aggitated with my kids. Loud noises or if they are fighting. Is that bipolar or is it just "normal"? I dont know.
Some days I seem to be OK then I will have one cup of tea and be flying for several hours like today. I drink tea everyday so I dont know why my body or mind reacts this way some times. Can you experience mania at different times through out the same day? Last edited by hashiBP2?; Apr 06, 2016 at 09:24 PM. |

Agitation/irritation is definitely a component of (hypo)mania.

I've heard of people who ultra rapid cycle ... I don't know much about it.
I can experience moments of more happiness throughout the day but not necessarily stable then mania ... stable then mania alternating back on forth in the same day. When I'm manic, I'm full blown manic 24/7. |

Are you on any meds?
It could be med-induced, but all you describe is typical, but might be normal enough when it comes to severity.

I am not on meds. Just thyroid meds.

I am bipolar 2 and rapid cycling.
I do believe that I have experienced the change in moods within the same day quite a few times.

Do you drink black tea? It can make mood swings more severe, erratic and more frequent (more vigilance might increase anxiety, for example).
The meds should not be an issue if they normalise your thyroid function successfully. Any changes after you started those meds? Just in case.

Tea has caffeine, as you know. It can lead to hypomania.

I am a rapid-cycling bipolar 2, and I experience hypomania in short bursts from time to time. When someone asked about black tea, they mean the type of tea you drink. There is black tea (regular iced tea, breakfast tea, Earl Gray, etc...it is the same type of tea) and there is green tea or white tea (not as commonly consumed). I would suspect the caffeine in it might be causing you to become hypomanic, but for me, one cup of tea won't affect me that much. I drink a lot of caffeine, however, so I'm not that sensitive to it.
If you feel like the irritability is interfering with your relationships and your life in general, I would see a psychiatrist to be put on Bipolar meds. Good luck! |

Irritability and agitation can definitely be signs of hypomania or mania. You need to mention this to your doctor.
