Let's talk about mood crashes.

How long does it take for you to crash into depression after a hypomanic, manic, or mixed episode? And do you feel that your "crash" depression is worse than regular depression?

--------

If you don't experience a crash after hypo/mania, then I envy you! However, I usually don't crash after a mixed episode, so there's that.

But anyway, I know I'm probably going to crash into an awful depression once this manic episode passes, and I can say that it usually takes me 1 week before I crash.

I find that my crashes feel *worse* than regular ol' depression. However, I do think that all of my depressive episodes are actually the same in severity. I think the "severity" of a depressive episode is often relative to your previous mood state, whether your mood state was stable, hypo/manic, or mixed.

I usually wind up in a weird limbo state for about 5 -7 days where I feel mixed, but not quite. Maybe its just me waiting on the inevitable. I then crash into what is usually at least a week long depression, with one or two days of inability to deal with life outside my covers.

I don't know to be honest, maybe 1 week, it's always delayed though, mixed states are different, the crash is usually immediate, or I go into hypomania, it's usually a toss up with mixed states though. Hypomania is more.delayed, I probably go mixed before I actually crash.

In the midst of a manic episode, it's literally like a light switch. Just one day, CLICK!, and a wave of darkness washes over me. The last time I swear I felt my brain chemistry change in an instant, like that feeling of the THC hitting your brain after the first toke... for those that can relate.

When the crash hits it's usually within a day or two. It's not that long.

I haven't quite had the experience yet and I'm not sure I want to after what you and I have already discussed. Hoping things get better for you soon.

A few weeks or so of hypomania often turns into euphoric mania, which will continue for maybe about 2-3 weeks before turning into dysphoric/mixed mania. Mixed manias usually last 1-2 months. At worst, a few months straight, but that's rare now with my combo of meds.

Depression can last anywhere from a few weeks to maybe 2-3 months, sometimes with some mixing in between. Anxiety seems to be present no matter what, but most extreme during mixed mania.
Thanks for this!
