Hi there
![]() I am just looking for some insight for my husband. We have a doctors appointment booked to go in and talk about his health. I'm just looking for some information about what is going on .. For a few years I have worried about his mental health. He struggles greatly to keep a job for more than a couple of months. Sometimes a couple of days. He usually gets into some kind of argument with authority or just has an angry meltdown and quits. Most days, he is great. But Irritable, impatient and angry when things take too long. It's sometimes embarrassing to go out at all because he hates waiting for anything, and will cause a scene. There are times he doesn't want to do anything but sit and eat, play video games and smoke. He impulsively spends, to the point he has spent our rent, food money etc. So now I have to look after the money, bills and necessities. He also talks to himself a lot. I see him talking under his breath all the time. I have walked in on him cussing and arguing with himself. All of the above I have noticed within the time we have been together but just blew it off as immaturity and personality. This past week he has been working away, every night he has been up all night calling me, crying, telling me of horrible dreams and eventually this morning woke up in a rage and quit. He called me crying while driving and told me he couldn't come home and was going to drive into oncoming traffic or shoot himself. I calmed him down, when he got home he was upset, cried, he agreed to go finally see a doctor and went to bed. I want to go in with him to the doctor and explain what I have experienced. I have thought that maybe he is bipolar or something with similar symptoms. I would love to hear your experiences, what lead up to your diagnosis and how the diagnosis was made. I love him, he is an amazing husband and father, but I would love if he got the help he needs. I apologize in advance for the long post. |

I'm glad that he is willing to see a doctor. He will need to agree to have you come in and talk so maybe you can work that out with him in advance. If he has more suicidal thoughts you may want to get him to an ER so that he can get more immediate, appropriate help. I think that is probably very important to keep him safe as he sounds impulsive. A hospital admission may also get answers faster and also get treatment started faster.
I hope that you get some answers soon.

Thankyou for the quick reply. I will sort out in advance to go and talk with him to the doctor. I think he will want me there, but if he prefers to do it alone, I'm happy with that too. I'v never worried that he will actually take his own life. Today I was scared because he was SO upset .. I just wasn't sure. I think it was because he was ashamed of his actions as he knows it impacts the ones he loves. I'm extremely worried because his manager spoke to him today and offered him another chance. So he is going back to work on Monday. I don't know whether I even want him to go back after the past few days episodes. I'm scared ![]() |
