What are your auditory hallucinations like? Does anyone have hallucinations like this:

I keep hearing an iPhone ring (you know, that unique, default ring that iPhones have), but I'm the only one in my house with an iPhone... and I'm using it to type this post, so it's not me!

It's been "ringing" for the past 40 minutes. Gah. It's nonstop!!! It sounds like it's coming from upstairs. It sounds faint... but when I go upstairs, it's gone! And earlier this morning at 2am I was hearing beeping that didn't exist.

In the past, I've had voices talk to me as well. They were laughing at me. Too bad they didn't tell me any good jokes. Why are voices mean?

my only auditory hallucination was last time I was in a sever mixed state, I was up for 5 days with no sleep at all. about 3 am on the last day I started hearing a voice just say over and over and over "go to bed". so it gave me good advice and I listened.
I've also heard police outside my house, like sirens and them calling me out. those ones aren't good. but they were also during the same mixed state.

mine usually revolve around someone screaming, sounds of shooting, people laughing, the sound of somebody drowning, thunder, something like that

the worst 1 I had was actually auditory and visual at the same time

little girl trapped in a fire. it was horrible.

When I do, which is rarely, it's mostly just voices I can't understand, or stuff that sounds like a DJ talking through faint radio noises.

Mine tell me to punch someone in the face, friends (which I don't have), family, strangers, doctors, just about everyone. Luckily I have good self control and have not acted on this.

I hear coughing, gagging, screaming, nonsense stuff like "autobahn scape the real" and sometimes things in other languages. I get command hallucinations too.

I'm not sure if I have them or not. I hear things that others cannot but I think I just have very good hearing and pick up on frequencies other people can't. For instance, for years I heard thumping music at night when I tried to sleep. I asked my husband and kids if they could hear it and they couldn't. You know when you pull up next to some person in your car who's playing loud rap music....and the thumping rattled your car and shakes your windows? It was like that....it would drive me NUTS....and nobody heard it...this went on for years. Then suddenly my husband could hear it also and we learned that people have music studios in the building behind our house. I have times where I hear faint talking and when I try to figure out what they are saying, my mind pieces bits of it together and I think I'm figuring it out but then it's gone and nothing makes sense. I might be hearing a neighbors radio, tv or perhaps them talking on the phone or something. People often say rude things to me and then claim they didn't say anything....I don't know what the truth is on that one.

Mine use to be mostly muffled talking, kind of like a TV was.on or what you'd hear in a mall food court, I could only ever make out a few words at a time. But I'd go around my house in the middle of the night (usually the time I'd hear voice, and yes I was fully awake, couldn't sleep, wide awake), with my baseball bat and check and see where the voices were.coming from, and if there were any TVs on in the house which there weren't. I heard it in all rooms even the basement, and even when I stuck my head out of the window to see if it was coming from outside (it wasn't), told.my grandparents and my neighbor about it, and they thought I was just hearing my neighbors TV, but I wasn't. How.could I hear it with all the windows closed in the middle of winter? I was also highly delusional at the time too, this all lasted about 6 months to a year, so I was probably in a mild untreated psychosis.

I don't get command hallucinations often, but when I do they tell me to kill myself, and stuff like that.

Sorry this is so long winded, I just write a lot.

It's interesting to read what others see and hear.

When I got them in the past, I would see shadow figures or misinterpret what I was seeing (ie: I would see a person standing there, when I checked back it was a tree).

I also became extremely paranoid of others intentions. I saw people's entire eyes go black and they appeared to stare and we're thinking bad things of me... it was intensely scary.

I also heard wind, phones ringing and whispers (sometimes my name), when there was nothing there.

That's very interesting. You're like my dad when it comes to hearing.

My hearing is actually below mediocre because of ear surgery I've had, so I know that if I hear a faint sound, it's probably a hallucination. That's the main way I can tell a hallucination apart from a real sound. Yay sh#tty hearing??

i wonder if the rude comments thing is a hallucination or not. All of the voices I hear are negative/rude toward me, so I agree it's so hard to tell which one it is.

I hope you're not too bothered by the rude comments

Yeah, my hearing isn't what it used to be but I still think it's above average. I used to hearing my kids whispering across the house and they would be completely astonished I could hear so far.....it did seem a neat skill but I do think it's possible that I've imagined people saying things about me from a distance......I'm a little confused on that part. Sometimes I conclude I have been imagining things and other times I see the truth just fine. I might never know for sure and I have to accept that.

Edited to add that unfortunately, they bother me a great deal. I feel very threatened by them but compelled not to let the person saying them see me react or be bothered..my posture becomes very rigid and I do everything it takes to appear as natural and unbothered as possible....it's all very awkward.

When I've had auditory hallucinations in the past, it's either hearing classical music that's never been composed, or static and voices like you hear when you're between radio stations. It's only happened a few times, and only when I was manic.

when i hear stuff it is like whispering like someone is standing behind me and whispering stuff into my ears mostly it is just commenting on what i am doing and stuff like that but other times they tell me to do stuff or say mean things it is normlly more than one voice and both male and female. other times i hear music playing when no one is home or sometimes if i have a song stuck in my head it will come out of my head only it doesnt sound like how the song is normally played it is like it is being sung by a children's choir and always the same group of children.

I had this same thing several years ago. The TV receiver- which does not make noise- began to play scratchy old jazz with muted trumpet. I could hear it with my ears loud and clear! Then, a whispery voice began to tell me to do things meanly, like "Look at me!" and "Talk to me!"

Usually when I hear a phone ringing (that isn't really ringing) its because the phone had been ringing earlier, or frequently.

So I personally don't count that as hallucinating, for me its more like a memory loop, even though its sounds real.

My hallucinations, lets see... Auditory:

Children singing, running commentary, most of a Whitney Houston album, an old couple discussing their grandson, radio static with faint music, women screaming obscenities at me and insulting me.

Visual: My computer screen rearranged itself and suddenly looked like the black and green binary code from the matrix, smoke emitting from random things that are definitely not on fire.

Olfactory: Burning bodies.

Yeah that's about it I think.

I smell burnt toast sometimes. Once near The Burnt Toast Inn. Once this past Sunday downtown.

I see people that disappear, and animals that disappear.

I've also heard music piped through the overhead speakers in a drs office only to be told later that its been broken for some time.

One time at the psych hospital, I heard a full marching band. I looked outside but didn't see one. I reported it to my nurse but they sent me back to bed. lol

I hear distant conversations where I can't tell what they're saying, music, my name. I've had a visual hallucination talk to me and tell me to get out of bed, do the laundry, get out of the house, etc. In my head I hear voices telling me I'm worthless, not good enough, etc.
