I've been wondering this for a while and more recently when I had my last pdoc visit. She said pristiq is like cymbalta and wellbutrin mixed together. So my meds for anti depressant are Wellbutrin 150 and weaning up to 100 mg pristiq. So if we were to do this in a math puzzle it's Wellbutrin + Wellbutrin + cymbalta = happy boogie?
Are antidepressants ranked at level of effectiveness like that? For example first we will try you on Zoloft then add Wellbutrin. If that doesn't work we will try cymbalta and Wellbutrin and if that doesn't work pristiq and Wellbutrin etc.

I wouldn't think that would work as well, for those of us with bipolar 1?

No, they don't have any path to follow. I know there are studies going on trying to develop paths; I have given blood for phase one and will do again for phase 2 soon. For now all they have is trial and error (and some extra guidance if you do that genetics test; I don't know much about that).

Depends on just how depressed you are, and whether you're bp1 or not, I expect. I take 40 mgs of Trintellix and l-methyl-folate to boost the trintellix. I've never taken two antidepressants at once unless I was weaning off one and titrating up on another.

Every drug works different for every person. I think we can all testify to that. I love Trileptal, some people here say it was the worst for them. Wellbutrin works for me, for others it makes them manic. Lamictal seems to work for most people, for it me it was horrible. There is no way to ensure what works for someone will work for another.
And I haven't come across any research that ranks drugs. If it were that easy, we wouldn't have as many problems as we do. IMO it comes down to the pdoc's experience, your symptoms, and your medical history.
Thanks for this!

I've tried well over two dozen meds before now. I always wonder what makes them pick which med for us. Btw Wellbutrin didn't help but pristiq does except I was a tad manic so he decreased my pristiq.
