I did some research on my symptoms and came to this conclusion. I figured I'd ask people with actual experience though.
My symptoms: -very depressed -sleep for most of the day -hear things -see things -paranoid that I'm being watched -thinking my pills are fake and I shouldn't take them All of this has been happening since before my last med change, so it can't be a side effect of that. I know I've posted about this a lot the past few days. I just really need validation and support. I've never experienced paranoia symptoms before.

I was told/diagnosed as psychosis with BP several years back. I honestly had many of your symptoms, add something very clear. I could not separate my dream world from real life. These fudged in.
From your comments I read above I would like to eliminate and check couple of things like; med side effects, daily diet. Alcohol and drug intake... I am not putting you down. I went thru all of it. It took a long time for me to find semi balance. Only a professional podc can really evaluate this and tell you for sure. All I know I was a bat Shet crazy couple of years ago and I do not remember a lot Wish you good luck. |

The last four things you list in your symptoms sure sound a lot like psychosis to me.
Katie has an excellent video on it. |

That sounds pretty much like my psychosis; except that mine happens when I'm manic - it can happen in either mood state.

I have had psychosis in both mania and depression but during my mania I was really out of it. I was convinced of the thoughts and beliefs I had.

Thanks everyone. I don't think it's a side effect because it started before my last med change and the rest of the meds I'd been on for awhile. My diet is normal, same as it's been forever. I do not do drugs or alcohol.
I watched that video and had 3/5 symptoms. I wonder what set this off?

Risperidone (until it gave me a rash) might have helped. Just to assure you, since you are coherent enough to ask the question "am I" you're not too far gone and don't nessessarily need to be hospitalized. I hope you feel better soon. Keep posting if it helps.

As I understand it, delusions are included as a feature of psychosis. While many of the psychotic symptoms are greatly reduced or stopped with AP's, the delusions can be a little to a lot more resistant depending on the nature of them and how long you have had them. From what I have read about, it seems delusions are helped as much by behavioral therapy as they they are by medication. Some long standing delusions may persist still, and the treatment becomes learning effective coping mechanisms to keep a resistant delusion from causing as much problems.

I get psychosis sometimes, and I can assure you that Abilify has not helped. In fact, it recently caused psychosis when I upped my dose. (Go figure!) I stopped taking it w/o telling my pdoc, but I feel a lot better now (i.e., no more psychosis). So, I'm still in search of a med that helps with psychosis.
I just wanted to say that in case you're considering Abilify. It may work for you, but I think other people have had experiences similar to mine. |
