So it looks like my Pdoc is taking me off of Zyprexa because it's made me gain a lot of weight despite eating only 1200 calories a day and going to the gym 6 days a week. He said putting me on Seroquel. Anyone have any experience with weight gain while on it? I've been doing some googling and I keep finding that a big side effect is weight gain so I'm worried I'm trading in one medication that's making me gain weight for another that's going to do the same thing.

He also mentioned potentially trying Abilify but my nurse today said it wouldn't be as good of a medication for me as Seroquel.

Just wondering what other people's experiences are.

Seroquel didn't make me gain any weight personally.

I couldn't believe how much I gained on Zyprexa....especially with the diet I put myself on and my exercise regimen. I was biking 15 kilometers 6 days a week and I still put on like 15-20 kilos since August.

I'm just hoping Seroquel won't be the same. My Pdoc seems to think it's a better option from a weight standpoint but I'm nervous about it.

No weight gain on Abilify. No weight gain on Seroquel... but I only take Seroquel as needed (usually to help me come down from hypo/mania).

They're giving it to me for paranoia and to calm my thoughts so I can sleep at night. My nurse said today he thinks I'll gradually go up to 100mg a night.

I'll never touch zyprexa for this reason. And I've been on seroquel for 12 years and no weight gain at all. I take 450mgs a night now and weigh 100lbs. I'm actually underweight!

I've gained weight on zyprexa . Unfortunately, it's the only anti psychotics I can take.

Yeah, makes sense. I get racing thoughts too (I think that's what you mean) and Seroquel helps with that quite a bit.

My pdoc said I can consider taking the XR version if I'd like, but I prefer the regular instant release because it's very sedating and helps me get a full night's sleep. I think I'd be too groggy during the day if I took the XR.

I just take 50-100mg at night depending on how wound up I am. Anything more than that is waaaaay too sedating for me. I tried 300mg once and I think I slept for 13-14 hours.

I gained weight, and had increased appetite on both Seroquel and Zyprexa. They both calmed me down, though.

I take Topamax and Metformin with Seroquel to combat the the weight gain. However I have gained weight. But im stable and I don't have anxiety anymore and I sleep through the night every night. Seroquel also helped quell my desire for alcohol.
