I'm not a big fan of Haldol. I'm prone to the twitches, spasms, etc., plus when I had to take Haldol in a lil cocktail at a hospital (Ativan, depakote, haldol, benadryl), I ended up pacing the floors of the ward, even though I was tired and (clearly) somewhat sedated by the drugs. Ugh.

Thorazine was used successfully a lot in the past, especially with lithium. There's a rapid dosage increase protocol for seroquel, in treating acute mania and/or acute psychosis. With the XR out now, I imagine the dose could be bumped up even faster.

I dunno. Some people take 2 antipsychotic/neuroleptic/tranquilizer drugs at the same time. I've managed to avoid that long term, but I was briefly on a mix of risperdal+perphenazine. It was OK, I guess...better than being off the wall psychotic.

I hope you can find relief+effective treatment.

Straight lithium worked well for me even though it's not weight neutral. Snapped me out of mania right quick.
