I had an increase in Geodon which was sedating to me in the beginning then went manic according to doc. I'm sleeping ok though. The Klonopin seems to be really helping though I'm sure what I'm being told isn't true, is true. My thoughts are not so wild but I slept hard last night. Klonopin, 2 vallium or 3-4 Ativan has calmed my agitation. I will only take them for a couple weeks at best.

I take Seroquel whenever I'm manic. It brings me down pretty quickly.

While I think Seroquel is a weight gainer drug, I've never gained weight on it because I don't use it all the time.

If you're super worried about weight gain, ask your regular pdoc about taking Zyprexa on an as needed basis once the mania goes away. (i.e., ask if you can take it only when manic.) See what they say.

antipsychotics+benzodiazepine+sleeping pills. Those 3 things, combined, made my mania go away last time.

That dose of Zyprexa and Klonopin should knock your mania into a cocked hat, or at least knock you out for a bit. Please let us know how it goes.

Haldal it's weight neutral.

Some pdocs will give a shot I always preferred to taking the pills.

Sure it's a ole school medication but it's well studied.

I have been on it in the past, always has knocked the Mania down really quick

Good luck and stay safe ❤️

Haldol is what helps me. Past a certain dose and I'll sleep, regardless of how far into mania I am.

I take an extra 10 mg of Zyprexa to deal with hypo/mania. I've learned to take it when I start ramping up instead of when things are already out of control. Works great!

Haldol settled my *** down from my last psychotic mania in like 3 - 4 days. paranoia and delusions just vanished and I could see clearly again.

I'm on Geodon, seems to help keep me out of hypomania/mania, and it's weight neutral for me at least.

Zyprexa PRN to bring it down; Geodon maintenance to not let it return (I learned this the hard way and am omitting all the steps to this solution).

Haldol sounds intriguing and if I develop mania (which is unlikely now, thanks to Geodon), I will ask for it.

((HUGS)). So sorry to hear that you're in such a dark place right now.

For me personally, Seroquel (at a high dose) helped bring me down from mania. I didn't experience weight gain, personally. I was in a dark, deep state of mixed mania that I thought would never end. Once Seroquel was increased, slowly but surely, I was sleeping better and gradually became calmer and more "even." My thoughts did not race as rapidly, but also Klonopin has also been effective with the other meds I take for dysphoric mania. It helped alleviate the severe agitation that comes with the mania, which helped me function better overall.

Haldol all the way. That **** straightens me out really fast.

Or seroquel. I had an interesting experience with that, where I could actually see things slowing down around me, as I came down.

Thanks everyone. the olanzapine and clonazepam shut down my mind for about 6 hours and helped me sleep last night. This morning i was hungover but ok then after an hour the agitation, racing thoughts godlike state returned. mind all ove the place. had more clonaz which helped but still freaking out of this world, disorientated too. wrote my bad thoughts down as dr suggested but it was confronting and hard to write in this state. might need more zyprexa...hard to be stuck in hospital when so restless

Great med and has a really solid track record. Has a larger potential for side effects than some of the newer meds but if your body tolerates it well, good bet that it'll crush what's ailing you once you're at a sufficient dose.

I agree with the Zyprexa recommendations. It's always worked well for me. If you're on it for any length of time you can gain a lot of weight.

I think Haldol+Lithium can be dangerous for some people.

Sometimes, an anti-epileptic or lithium is needed in the mix to really make the mania go away. I forgot that when I had The Breakdown, they also had me on depakote. I despise depakote, but...it did help bring me back to reality. I just wasn't on it long, because I started having problems, did blood work, and the hospital had released me on so much depakote that my blood levels went near toxic. Not fun.

Maybe Trileptal in the mix? Some people do well on depakote, lithium. Just watch the blood levels with tegretol, lithium, and depakote.

Hope this helps.

A year ago my pdoc wanted to get me off of klonipin to sleep. I was taking 1 mg at night and that was all. None during the day.
So she tapered me off klonipin and started me on trazadone But she also lowered my geodon which was a bad idea.
The trazadone made me mildly psychotic for about 3 weeks before I stopped the trazadone and went back to the klonipin and then back up to my prior dose of geodon. It took a while to stabilize. Well I got down to .5mg of klonipin to sleep so she was happy with that thankfully.
I hated the trazodone, made me super dry, super drying stuffed nose, could not sleep. And it was supposed to help my sleep.
Awful.
I have heard of some people taking seroquel for sleep, and that is an AP so that could help you too.
bizi
Geodon is great as a maintanance AP and is weight neutral.

I have taken seroquel before and had awesome results. Slept well, stayed stable. Unfortunately after a while I had the rare side effect of restless legs syndrome. This is not normal! I would bring this up with your pdoc, it could be a good medication to try. I've tried twice to get off Klonopin and haven't succeeded. Good luck to you!!!
