My doctor reduced my 60mg of Cymbalta to 30mg on Friday and wants me to stop it completely on Tuesday. He is trying to stop the mania but I am worried about side effects coming off so fast. discontinuation syndrome etc.

Anyone her come off AD's suddenly or quickly and not experienced problems? I have heard the horror stories but am hoping mine will be different.

Whatever effects you feel from the rapid antidepressant withdrawal probably pale in comparison to the consequences of the antidepressants further amplifying your mania. Your doctor is probably taking the risk of the rapid withdrawal in order to put out a fire.

I think you got it there. he didn't want me on them in the first place due to that but i insisted as i was fed up being depressed. If i get depressed again I don't know what will help. Tried Lamotrigine and Latuda to no effect. but i think depression is easier to deal with than crazy mania. I am acting weird and dangerous.

I had brain zaps for 2 weeks straight after stopping Lexapro cold turkey. I kept getting zapped every 5-15 minutes. It was awful.

I ultimately asked my pdoc for another Rx of Lexapro because I couldn't handle the zaps. He told me to cut the tablet in half and take a tablet every other day. Worked like a charm.

As long as you don't go cold turkey, you *should* be okay. But if you do start getting brain zaps, ask your pdoc to titrate your dose slower, and consider taking a tablet every other day until you stop getting brain zaps.

Best of luck

Tapering cymbalta was kind of a pain for me, but I was on a higher dose (90mgs). Do you have any benzodiazepines, gabapentin, low dose neuroleptics on hand? Those drugs seemed to make my last rapid antidepressant taper (it was Tofranil...ugh...) go more smoothly than it probably would have otherwise.

Today is my first day off Cymbalta after being on 60mg for at least 2 months then 30mg for 3 days. Dr wants me off quickly. Now I am super happy, god like and probably manic but dark obsessions disappeared. Maybe its due to coming off cymbalta quickly. I don't care cause i feel awesome. seeing dr later today will see what he thinks. physically i feel fine but my mind is wild.

Hope you have some comfort as you go through withdrawals. I had the same thing when I was coming off Effexor.

Yesterday (Wednesday here) my nurse accidentally gave me 30mg of Cymbalta in my morning meds. I did check them but didn't notice it. So now I am back to day one off Cymbalta. Nurse was very apologetic and she is an amazing nurse so I'm not mad at her. Only side effects today are headaches. Apart from that I feel awesome. Have posted on every post I could on the first three pages of the forum but want to keep chatting and hopefully supporting.

That's too bad she started that process all over again when you were partially already through it, but I'm glad that you are feeling better.
Thanks for this!
