Does anyone else here get hypocondric in depressive episodes? I feel it coming on and already got some doctor's appointments to get a grip on it. Comes naturally with depression at some point. This time I think I might have cancer because I have been party smoking and real smoking for a year. Rationally I know it is pretty improbable that at 25 and after one year of smoking I get that. Well anyways. Anyone of you who knows that? What do you do against it? I am not on meds.

I get health phobia more than hypochondria. With hypochondria you focus on one illness and cannot be convinced you don't have it despite tests to prove otherwise.

When depressed I get many physical symptoms and I worry and stress I have a variety of illnesses but do not hyper focus on one too long. It will go from MS, to RA, to Cancer, to ALS, to Epilepsy....and on and on. It's because I feel so bad physically and I bet any person in as much pain as I am in would obsess in the same way....especially when doctors can't fix it and expect you to just do some exercise and get over it.

Is this a problem you commonly have when depressed? The obsession with having cancer?

Thanks for this!

Yes, it is. I sometimes get health phobia as well, might be having that rather than hypochondria at the moment but didn't know the difference before. I go from various types of cancer to COPD at this moment but before I had anything, just like you say, MS, cancer, ALS and lots of crazy improbable illnesses more. Focused on cancer since my mom got it three years ago (but is fine now).

One more question, as you say you feel so bad when depressed. I woke up this morning with the best intentions: do sports, work and stuff. Felt impossible, crawled back to bed and slept till 2 pm, but not just because I feel so ****** but because my head all of a sudden is KILLING me. Can't see straight, feel sick to my stomach. Set in with the desesperation of depression in the same moment. You get anything alike?

Yes, when depressed I get very physically sick. I'm physically sick even when stable but it takes on a life of its own when depressed. (((Hugs)))
