Hello everybody,

I bet none of you suffers this ailment. But, I've been wrong before.

I have too good of a memory. My brain is constantly bombarded with memories. Can't think of anything good I've done. All is bad stuff.
Which I did. Is not imaginary. A good memory never comes.
Everybody with me so far?. Good.

Now the clincher. When a memory comes to me, I try to erase it by shouting.
Go figure. I shout a phrase, like three or four words. Not related to the thought. TG!!. It goes away. Until the next one. 20 seconds later. Shout again.
I think the mentally challenged do that. Don't they?. Anybody else?.

Yes, it happens to me and I shout out "I love you" and "will you marry me" usually. It's very strange....especially the marry me one but it could be a cuss word or something which is less socially acceptable than a random marriage proposal. I can usually control it in public.

Sometimes when overwhelmed by negative thoughts I immerse myself in the ocean and shout underwater where no one can hear me. It really helps. Does the shouting help?

Sorry you r suffering. (((PIRILIN)))

Not so great memory for; where did I put the keys, did I put in the garlic yet, where are my shoes, etc.

Terrific memory for all the embarrassing mishaps and missteps I've done.......is that what you mean? If so, yup. I understand! Hugs

Oh yeah, this happens to me too. More now that I'm on meds. How do you rid yourself of the thoughts?. Shouting is very embarassing. Even in front of my wife, who's aware of why I do it. Any tips?.

Turning 30 this year and constantly think about all the f&c%ed up stuff I did in my 20's. Gawd it's agonizing. And just now I was listening to old music. The shins. Band of horses. Bon Iver. Great music but brings up memories. It sucks. I cringe. I don't shout out but I think *tisk tisk* in my head. I'm not thrilled to be turning the big three oh but I'm glad my twenties are behind me. I'm a new person. I'll drink to that!

My memory is pretty craptastic, BUT I very much relate to trying to erase something vocally. I do it when I start to hear any music that I fear getting stuck in my head. (If it is something I like, that is not such a fear).

As soon as I hear such a thing, some things I do:
Plug my ears with my fingers and hum very loudly or say, we-ew we-ew we-ew (like siren)
Cover my ears with my hands and rapidly repeat something like, "nah nah nah nah nah" very flatly.
Make random off-key note sounds (the AntiCatchy, lol)
Shout, "no no no no no"

You get the idea. I don't care where I am. THEY aren't the ones who are going to hear it looped for days or more likely weeks, so I don't care what they think. The vocalizations are my only hope of preventing this.

I got a perfect score on my ACTs back in the day, so not "mentally challenged" at all in the sense you mean. (Which is not to say I haven't lost a lot of ground in processing, like executive functioning). So I don't think it reflects your intellect at all. Is that your concern, pirilin?

When the overwhelming thoughts occur I just shout "will you marry me " and suddenly feel silly but better.
