My pdoc has prescribed me Clopixol as a PRN to calm me down from mixed mania. I have had it as an injection and it gave me akethesia but my doc insists the tablets won't do that.

Anyone had experiences with the tablets?

Today is my first day where I may need to try it but I am worried about the side effects. Hopefully the Olanzapine and Clonazepam will be enough but they haven't been in the last few days. This new med kinda scares me but at the same time I need to be calm to be safe.

I looked it up as I never heard of it and interestingly it is not approved for use in the United States. I don't know why. I hope it works for you!

Well thats a worry. Wonder why it's not approved in the US. Oh well, if I need extra help to calm down I will give it a go and see what happens. I have had it in injection form as an Acuphase injection but got bad akethesia. Juts hope the tablets don't give me the same reaction.

Well from what I was reading it seems there just hasn't been a big push in the US for the FDA to approve it, so they haven't. I don't think it's because of side effects or long term effects. At least from the brief research I did. But I don't understand why a tablet wouldn't do the same thing as the injection. Before I went on invega I tried the pills first because I was worried about side effects. I didn't think there would be a difference. But I guess it's worth a try, right? If it does give you akathesia it will wear off and then you know not to take it in any form.

There is a med you can take to sop akethesiaa so I have that as a back up should things go wrong.

that sounds like a ton of antipsychotics. How long will you be taking that much tranquilizer?

Wander, have they ever talked to you about clozapine? It's a very effective AP for people who haven't responded to anything else very well. I can't tell you the difference it has made for me. After 40+ meds, 71 combinations I'm finally only cycling a little, not even enough to do more than annoy me a bit at times. I'm starting to come off other meds. And it has held me longer than any med by so much; I've not had a bad episode since getting on it in February and that's unheard of for me.

I know my pdoc considered it carefully for several years before I just ran out of meds and it was the only choice. It's supposed to be used as a last resort because it can cause drops in your immune system. But they monitor that really carefully (in the US weekly labs for 6 months, then 2x/month for 6 months then monthly as long as it is taken). I honestly wish we'd decided to go with it sooner than we did because it works so well. It does cause sedation that we're still working to reduce as we've not found my perfect dose quite yet (normal for me since I'm really sensitive to med doses) and some weight gain but I'm losing that now with help from a little metformin. Otherwise no side effects.

You just seem so much like me, so difficult to medicate and this stuff helped me so much. I can't even begin to explain how much better I feel and it's not manic better, it's real.

The injection starts off by giving you a really high dose. Tablets do not do that. It is reasonable to assume that with a lower does you won't suffer from akathisia, but it is good that you have an anti-akathisia med by your side just in case.

Thanks so much for the ideas! Really appreciate your concern. The plan is to have me on high doses for a few days to bring me down from euphoric and dysphoric mania and leave me stable. I'm terrified of Clozapine. So many side effects I couldn't live with. Guess if we run out of options I will tentively consider it.

Today my mood has switched back to euphoria so all is well today. Still taking my meds but don't feel I need them. My doc is confident the increased meds over a few days will stabilise me.

So happy to hear Clozapine has helped you so much. What a relief to stay mostly stable for so long. I wish you all the best

Euphoria gone, back into mixed state. Heavily medicated. hope to sleep it off and feel better tomorrow. I feel rage and SI. Meds keeping me safe. I just want to stabilise. Dr said give it a few days and it in only day one so there is still hope.

Thanks so much for your support everyone, each message hug and good vibe makes a huge difference. I had to come back from leave as I was so agitated, irritable and overwhelmed. Missed playing with my niece. Feel so guilty about that. She is beautiful. Olanzapine and Clonazepam and Lorazepam have calmed me so I might try and gt out again soon. The agitation etc may be akesthesia so I will take no more Cloxpical.

Mood sightly better this afternoon but nights are my worst. I want my euphoria back but this seems to be the consequences of going so high. Maybe I can land at just above baseline in mild hypo-mania. Don't write know how to achieve that though and all these meds are stopping the mania. I can feel it trying to break through and say, 'Play with me!'
