I've gained about 3kg in the last few weeks, I'm told constantly that I need to gain & I look better but 1kg weight gain a week is way to much for me to feel comfortable. I was under the impression that lamictal is weight neutral? This also coincides with stopping smoking MJ, I stopped approx 2 months ago, went through a period of minimal appetite & now getting my appetite back, so I suppose it could be that. My old pdoc always said I wouldn't put on weight with the amount I was smoking daily (~1.5-2g) & my appetite was really inconsistent when using, I would have no appetite until I smoked then I would often binge.
I don't know what it is but it's freaking me out, I can tell my face is fuller & my abdomen thicker aswell. Anyone gain weight on lamictal? Especially in a short period of time? I didn't even gain weight on stelazine (old school AP). Looks like I'll be buying a bike.

I think it probably is because I've stopped smoking but I just keep worrying it's the lamictal. I would talk to my pdoc about it but I don't feel like I will be listened to because he suggested I gain weight last time I saw him anyway.

Hi, lifestyle changes like the cessation of smoking can cause changes in weight. I understand lamtotrigine is pretty neutral. I take it and don't believe it is responsible for my own weight gain. Talk to your doctor. They may suggest you wait a while longer to narrow other things out.
Do you take other medications that may be the culprit? I understand how this could be devastating. |

I lose weight because I have more energy and run about, do push ups, pull ups and lunges. And I don't have the carb cravings like I do when I'm depressed.

haven't gained weight on it. I think its usually weight neutral.
But if you get more agitated while depressed and the lamictal made that simmer down, maybe the weight gain is because some of your former symptoms kept your weight down? In my own life, I had problems maintaing a steady weight before proper treatment, and for a while there I was straight up emaciated. Once I got treatment, I blew up like a blimp, and a lot of that was because I never learned proper diet, etc., and I'd basically been relying on my craziness to keep me svelte. Just thought I'd throw that out there for you. I hope things get better for you. |

I put on a lot of weight, not sure if it was Lamictal or something else but it took me a year to lose almost 30 pounds. I'm still not at the weight where I was before I became disabled, I'm like...5 pounds off, but working out and dieting made a huge difference and was worth the effort.
So I would recommend starting an exercise routine and watching what you eat. ![]()
