When I have anxiety I have flashbacks. When I have flashbacks I have anxiety. Which one comes first?

I think it's just all related. flashbacks would give anyone anxiety and maybe you're anxious because Your body is reacting to an oncoming flashback?

I also think it goes both ways. Flashbacks are scary to experience, which induces anxiety. When experiencing anxiety prior to the flashbacks, this also makes someone more vulnerable to experiencing flashbacks and/or other psychological problems.

Do you have flashbacks of chickens or eggs?

I have flashbacks from being assaulted a few years ago. When I'm experiencing flashbacks I take a klonopin and it helps. So reducing the anxiety helps with the bad memories.

I apologize for the earlier flippant comment. I didn't realize you meant that sort of flashback.

I don't have an answer for you, but I hope you can talk to somebody about what you're going through, if you haven't done so already. That sounds really difficult.

Do you have anything to distract yourself with when you experience this sort of thing? Distractions help me a lot. I like going out for walks, for example, or watching a complicated movie that requires a lot of thinking.

I tried talking to my therapist about it but I wasn't ready to re-live it but she pushed me... too far. It made my PTSD so bad I had to go inpatient for awhile. I just wasn't ready.

I'm sorry this happened to you. I empathize more then you know. My therapist is doing the same thing and I shut it down immediately. You are strong and brave. Sending big hugs.
