Anyone else take Lamotrigine for bipolar. I know it's a seizure medication but I guess they found it to help with this, too.

Lam. helps a lot of people, in my experience. I didn't find it particularly helpful, but I'm on a different anti-seizure med (Trileptal) and that's helping me a lot.

I'm doing it as mono-therapy (because I'm refusing anything else) and it's the best thing that's happened to me in a long time. And hardly any side effects other than very, very vivid dreams ... that I actually remember.
Thanks for this!

Been on it for years. The only thing I'm afraid of is being maxed out (which I already am) and it stops working.

I hope that doesn't happen.

I took it as my first BP med I believe. I didn't take it long enough to form an opinion. Good luck!

I take 100mgs. I'm guessing its mostly there to make the Wellbutrin work better and keep me from cycling down into depression as much. I find it effective, no side effects as best I can tell.
Thanks for this!

I just started. He's trying to level me out and treat the BP before we start trauma therapy. Just wanted to see if it'd be worth it.

It takes a while weeks/months to get to therapeutic level of 200mg. I would think that you would like to start therapy ASAP.

I just went back to therapy this week. He encouraged me to come in after my mixed cycle got really dangerous. Now I'm back up and scared to come down from it. I like feeling this way, aside from the lack of sleep issue, makes the days too long sometimes.

He also gave me Trazadone, 100mg. Other than that, only meds I take are ibuprofen (for chronic headaches/migraine) and Levothyroxine for my thyroid.

So the trazadone is not helping you sleep?
call your pdoc and ask for a higher dose or something else. It is really important for you to sleep.
SO very important.
Many people take seroquel to sleep at night...

It helps a bit but makes me feel like **** later so I don't usually take it. Sometimes I don't mind, gives me more time to chalk out my thoughts.

Lamictal stopped my deep depression, really calmed down my irritability/anger issues, and even eased my manic episodes somewhat.
To me it should be the first line of defense when dealing with bipolar, it could have saved me years of grief.
Thanks for this!

This is unacceptable.
You need to understand the importance of sleep to your mental well being.
I would ask for something else if you do not like the trazodone.
I took and did not like it at all, for one it made me manic!
plus I did not like the drying aspect of it.
But that is just my experience taking it.
now I take klonipin to sleep.
Have been taking some amino acids to see if I can sleep better...but because I have been having hot flashes my sleep is interrupted.
anyway.
Sleep is really really important!

Thanks for the advice. I'll see if I can get another prescription.

I started lamictal 6 weeks ago (actually for partial seizures but pdoc suggested to try lamictal first to my neuro if I was to start an AED). I think it's been activating, I don't sleep well, I wake up a lot & have really vivid dreams atm, like bizi said maybe try a different sleep med?
