I think it's Wellbutrin doing it but I just can't get enough water! My primary thinks I'm prediabetic but the eye dr said my eyes were fine as far as that's concerned. I guess I'm well-hydrated.

Depakote for me... went from ~1/2 gallon a day (already nuts) to well over a gallon a day - yes, I measured...

I have a 44oz cup that I use for mine. Otherwise measuring would be impossible... but I had to ask my pdoc if it was possible I could be unintentionally flushing with all that water... he said if you're thirsty, drink it. I know at work, the water pitcher is constantly empty... so we're not alone. I think most of these meds do it to most of us. Especially the ones that alter the endocrine system or are processed by the kidneys...

I should clarify that: work is an involuntary inpatient psych ward... I'm a peer counselor.

I'm not on lithium but boy do I get thirsty! I drink mostly water, no soda and only a cup or two of coffee a day. I don't know why I don't like soda anymore---I used to drink up to six cans a day!---but for some reason I lost my taste for it after my husband died and I haven't had one in months.

Anyway, I drink probably three liters of water a day. I'm on a diuretic (water pill) for my blood pressure and I get dried out pretty quick because I'm peeing all day. There are probably other reasons too but I don't know what they are. It's a good habit to be in anyway---water is good for flushing the kidneys and bladder, and it helps with weight loss. I've lost almost 50 pounds since July and attribute some of it to replacing Coke with water.

AP of all kinds can increase the risk of diabetes. It happened to me about a year after I went on seroquel. Now I take metformin. It wouldn't hurt to get checked for it. However the. AP and ADs also give you a dry mouth and make you thirsty. I never go anywhere without my water bottle.

One thing to caution you on the pre-diabetes is that you have to be pretty far along for it to be noticeable during an eye exam. I talked to my optometrist about it over the summer, and he said in 10 years of practicing, he's only had 1 case where it was apparent that the person had diabetes. So you definitely do not want a case where your eye doctor is the one diagnosing it.
Consider the other symptoms of diebetes- are you fatigued, having blurred vision, having extreme hunger? If you're having more than one symptom, then I would check it out with a dr.
Otherwise, the amount of water you're drinking sounds healthy.

there is a form of diabetes called diabetes insipidus which is marked by significant dehydration and the requirement for constant intake of fluids and pale diluted urine. It's pretty rare and difficult to diagnose. Unlike Diabetes Types 1 and 2 this has no impact on the eyes. This is a condition that can be caused by lithium. Get your blood tested. The condition often occurs with that of very high calcium and low thyroid/parathyroid hormone numbers. Unfortunately there is not much that can be done other than to keep oneself hydrated.

It could be a number of things but lithium toxicity causes diabetes incipitus. Wonder if my Pdoc will want to know or my primary or both?

I was just labeled as diabetic well sorta of. Doc said my a1c was 6.6 and one before that 5.9. Gave me 500 metamorfin a day and dietician. So far been doing well with watching sugar. Doc has me taking a blood test next month and then one in march to see if I am out of the zone and back to normal.
This kinda was a kick in the *** for me. I was slacking with food. Dietician made it easy. She recommended bunch of food put it on a list and my job was picking what to eat. With Wellbutrin and meta should lose weight since I don't feel as hungry. Except for that rotisserie chicken I'm friending.
Btw yes was thirsty a lot.

That's encouraging! I saw a dietician for only 2 or 3 visits. She wanted me to buy so much food I couldn't afford to!
