Ran out of all my daily meds (lamictal, Lexapro, Abilify, Klonopin).

I called up my pdoc's office and the person on the line said that they don't do prescription refills after hours or on weekends. They said I have to call my pdoc on Monday, but the problem is that my pdoc doesn't work mondays... or Tuesdays... or Thursdays... Not to mention he's on vacation for the next 4 days anyways, so I can't contact him until Friday. So I can't even contact a different pdoc because this place doesn't do "doctor sharing".

That's some real bullsh#t right there.

[sarcasm]But that's cool, I guess... You can be total dicks about it. Doesn't bother me [/sarcasm]

Me thinks it's time for a new pdoc

P.S. I expected the ability to refill my meds because I'm always given refills. I looked at my bottles and the refills say 0. So I was basically prescribed a bunch of meds 4 weeks ago and refills weren't allowed. That's new.

shrinks can be ridiculous. I go to a community mental health clinic and they're actually more professional than some of the private practice d-bags I dealt with back when I had good insurance.

I do think you need a new psychiatrist. Problem is, a lot of them are a$$holes. Its not really a few bad apples or whatever. Its the whole damn field.

Sorry about this. Do you have an understanding family doctor/general practitioner?
Thanks for this!

My PC doc did that with one med to see how well or not it worked, and then a different doc did the same with a replacement and an appointment to see him again in one month.

Makes sense, but I've been in Lamictal for 1.25 years, Lexapro for 1.25 years (although I recently went off it, then back on it), Abilify for 11 mos, and Klonopin for 1 mo.

I can understand the Klonopin maybe, but not the others

Sometimes my pharmacy/pharmacist will call the prescribing doctor to get refills and will obtain the orders in a flash, when otherwise it can take me 3 days. The docs seem to answer the pharmacist much more quickly.

Sometimes docs will call in refills even on days (esp. Mon-Fri.) they are not officially in the office.

More and more primary care docs are taking over prescribing psych meds. There's a shortage of psychiatrists, esp in private practice.

I hope you can get your meds squared away.

I'm sorry you're going through this. I can understand why you would consider another pdoc. I actually had the same situation happen with my old pdoc. Even when she was on vacation during the week, the front office staff couldn't even get me to see a covering doctor and was unable to call anything in. Luckily, I found a new pdoc who is much better and more accessible. My therapist was the one who referred me to the new pdoc. I hope you get this situation resolved soon.

I feel so terrible for anyone with a crappy Doctor situation. These are emergencies and should be addressed as such. It's just not acceptable and I'm sorry you are going through this.

I go to my pharmacy when this happens. They usually give me 2 - 4 pills to get by until I get a script.

Most pharmacist will give you a few days worth of meds especially the Lamictal because if your off that more than 3 days you have to start over the titration to reduce risk of SJS.

There is also the walkin clinics, take all your current actual bottles with you .... vast majority will give you a week or a month on anything except Klonopin.

Hope you find someone willing to hold you over until Pdoc office can call in refills.

((( hugs )))

Thanks guys

Couldn't get a hold of my gp to have her write a script, but I did call the pharmacy and they said they can give me a few pills to last me until Friday. Yay
