My other cat developed this huge lump on his head Sunday. I took him to the vet today and she did a biopsy that showed maybe infection/maybe cancer. She did not recommend doing vaccines because he may not need them (they would be so he'd be safe when I get kitten which of course I won't do if he is dying). If it is cancer it is aggressive. She seemed hopeful that it is infection but cancer is a very real possibility.

He had an antibiotic shot. If it shrinks it is infection. If it grows or doesn't change it is cancer and we'll have to discuss next steps, whether surgery will help or not. I'll know within 2 weeks.

I'm just numb. I can't cope with losing 2 so close together. I can't even cope with the idea of it.

Hopefully it's an infection. It sucks that your other cat is sick. Take care of yourself right now.

Hugs, rainbow.

That sounds hard. I hope it's just an infection and your cat will be fine.

I woke up this morning and the lump had drained overnight. This was not the expected progress and I assume it is a good thing. So unless something awful happens I think the vet's fears of cancer are going to be just fears and that he has had an infection that must have drained through the biopsy hole.

I am so relieved I feel limp.

----response I can truly relate. I am a major cat person. Last year my beloved 18 yr old senior citizen cat had both advanced kidney disease and nose cancer. My fingers are crossed for an infection on your kitty's head. When my cat was sick I learned a lot. In large cities they now have cat specialists, esp cat cancer specialists (oncologists). I had no idea before that. Also, vet medical technology is now advancing rapidly. For example, there is a lot you can do for cat kidney problems very common in older cats, that would have been unheard of a few years ago. It can be expensive, but universities esp in rural areas may have vet schools you could call for cheaper treatment.
Hugs!

Sounds like an infection for sure. Cancer doesn't usually act like that. Great news!
