Met my new D.O. Doctor of osteopathy today! My new DO doctor of osteopathy.....
Met my new DO. today. It was my luck that my regular doctor was out on maternity leave and I had to see him for my wellness exam.
He was young personable listened to me.
He listened to my concerns.
He did not comment about my weight.
my blood pressure was a bit elevated for me 124/87
he was not concerned for my "age".
I did not know that he was an osteopathic doctor when I agreed to see him.
Now I will keep him as my regular doctor. He ordered a bone density exam, we discussed me only taking 500mg of calcium I may need to take more. I also don't take the right kind of magnesium. so that is not good. I am glad we talked about this.
He wants to wait and see how the bone scan comes out.
5 years ago when I fell and broke my collar bone, I was hypomanic and had lost a lot of weight rapidly and probably depleted my bone mass. I was diagnosed osteopenia borderline osteoporosis. That is when we discovered that I was low in vit D. If it comes out borderline again then he wants to do some more testing to see what I am deficient in.
I think I will switch my calcium supplement, currently I take coral calcium and have for many years.
He was happy with my HDL being so high 140...never said a word about my total cho being 283. He said that I have a negative risk factor for dieing from a heart attack.
He spent over an hour with me!
He has only been in practice for a couple of months.
He does not like naturopathic doctors and was glad that I canceled my appointments. He practices western medicine.
Mammo which is covered under wellness exam and bone density scan which is out of pocket will be soon.
I am happy with my new doctor.
Now I have to find a new gyn doctor as he does not do paps.

That's great bizi! It's wonderful when you find a doctor you click with. I knew a good doc would be happy with the HDL! He sounds like a keeper!

My p-doc is a D.O. I'm very happy with the care I get. He thinks bigger than pharmaceuticals.

I try to find DOs for as much as possible. I think they tend to be better or at least more willing to be reasonable about mental illness. Both my pdoc and primary doctors are DOs.

I wonder if he would write my scripts for me?

I love my new pdoc who is also a D.O. He is definitely more personable and takes time to listen to my concerns.

I don't know. I think it takes a specialist to manage psych issues but that's me (and mine are complicated by my poor response to meds). My family dr learned a great deal about psych by having me as a patient; I started seeing him just a few months after he finished his residency and he definitely learned a lot in our first few years together. He was always willing to call my pdoc and to learn more about my meds and that made a lot of difference in how he managed my physical needs. He got me through my first lithium toxicity (I think it was his first one too), my thyroid being burned out by lithium, lamictal rash, my first month on an MAOI when my pdoc was out to have surgery, etc. He's awesome. And so is my pdoc who already knew everything before I walked into her office .

I don't think it'd be a huge deal. Around here, the family doc MDs generally don't, now, because they have so many patients, but some will. I have a family member who gets her low dose amphetamine and lamictal from the general practitioner. If you're stable and not on a ton of controlled substances, I don't think it could hurt to at least ask.
Thanks for this!
