So, I'm finding a beer a day keeps the doctor away, right now. Let me explain my reasoning: I began taking Seroquel as prescribed by my shrink -- once a day before bed -- and I'm finding a daily side effect that's bothering me. My heart rate is slightly elevated at all times and when I feel stressed, I'm working, or I'm just excited about a television show my heart rate increases to a pace I'd get while going on a run. I try to be mindful and bring it down but that doesn't work. Breathing techniques are currently a joke, along with muscle tension/relaxation. I'm finding the only way to lower my heart rate back to normal is to have a drink. Keep in mind, I don't do it within a two hour time frame of taking my next dose.

Does anyone here know of other ways to keep my heart rate down other than drinking? I'm not getting drunk or anything, but alcohol's expensive and something I try not to keep around the house. Anyway, thanks in advance for reading.

Does your Pdoc and /or GP know your having increased heart rate regardless of your activity?

I'm no doctor but it might be something that has nothing to do with BP.

Have a checkup

That happened to me on some drug when I'd first started it. (Forget). My Pdoc stopped the med.

That's something your pdoc needs to know. APs can cause heart rhythm disturbances and they may want to check it out with an EKG.

I'll make sure to let him know. I see him again on Monday and I'll bring it up then. Thanks.

One thought about your Seroquel -- I don't know if it is an antidepressant but with my antidepressant (Bupropion/Wellbutrin), it made me anxious (which make my blood pressure go up) when I was prescribed 300 mg daily--no problems with anxiety/blood pressure at 200, 150, or 100 mg daily. So maybe you were just prescribed to high of a dosage. Just one possiblity. Getting your blood pressure down to a healthy level is important. Everyone is right about the need to tell the doctor that prescribed it to you.
