hey all,
so I am going back on pristiq and I already knew the nausea would be an issue (I get it with every med with that 'possible' effect). so I had looked up remedies online and two of them were ginger capsules (used in chemo patients) and zantac. well, I didn't throw up but I still had dry heaves about an hour after I took the pristiq even after taking both the ginger and zantac.
I know the side affect will go away after about a week, its just getting through that week that is so hard. anyone have some ideas/tips about the nausea?

I've tried many other antidepressants, they push me into mania, the snri's work best for me. I've also tried latuda but the nausea was horrible despite eating and it was causing me to lose my other needed meds into the toilet.

might consider asking for zofran even though I did just see my pdoc Monday. I seriously need to be on the antidepressant right now, relationship issues are coming up, holidays and winter in general. just trying to be proactive.

thanks!

I have taken phenergan and dramamine. They work pretty well, but they make me really drowsy. If you're going to do ginger, try raw ginger. Carry a finger of ginger in your pocket and take a nibble off it every once in awhile. Can be effective short term. Candied ginger works very well as well. The sugar and the ginger is a good combination.

The BEST solution in a perfect world is weed. It's a illegal where I am and I'm an alcoholic so I stay away from it. Some say it's bad for bipolar. I honestly don't know. But what I do know is that it works for nausea better than anything else.

thank you! I have taken dramamine after a particularly bad food poisoning episode and it worked very well..I think I'll go back and find that.

not sure if it was just this particular 'brand' but man, weed smells like skunk these days, back in the 70s it was so nice lol I had a friend in '15 who shared a bit with me once but haven't since then.

Weed is definitely effective. You can find it in all shapes and sizes these days; skunk, candy cane, coffee, and other heavenly-smelling strains. If you prefer a mellow background effect, find a vape pen and some oil extract. Care to blow your mind? Try dabbing.

In my case I can't go near the stuff, because it drives me into a psychosis. I'm also a sober alcoholic, so going down the path is a dark one. It also happens to be illegal where I am, but that'll change soon enough. In a former life I had a medical license and had all I wanted....and the accompanying psychosis which landed me IP. Not going back there.

But for some nausea relief, toke one for me.

Well you don't have to smoke it. And some of them smell really good to me. I wish I could smoke it. I lost a high security job with FAA/Homeland Security because I reported smoking in once in the previous year. And now I'm sober so I stay away from drugs and booze. Honestly, though, since I quit drinking, I don't get nauseous anymore, so...

I have zero tolerance for nausea, so I REALLY REALLY empathize with you on this. Hang in there!

Daniel, thank you for suggesting the dramamine, so far it is working! I didn't try again after that last bout for about a week, just because I was avoiding the thought of dry heaves again. But I know I need to be taking the AD so...here's to no more nausea!

Drinking half a teaspoon of bi-carb soda in a little water helps nausea immensely. It doesn't taste bad, in fact it hardly has any taste.

Here in Michigan it's a must to drink ginger ale when your nauseous. Grandmothers have been using it for generations.

smoke weed. best thing in the world for nausea, might actually help you with mood too, it has helped me more than any med ive ever been on. if I could just be medicated (stoned) 24/7 id still be able to function and I think my life would be much more manageable.

I was going to suggest baking soda. That helps me. And if you take it with aspirins it's the same as alka seltzer.

Be careful with that one. It has magnesium and is used for a laxative. When I take high doses of mag, I'm running to the bathroom for up to 3 days lol. Sorry TMI

This is true. My mother always suggested flat ginger ale like -Vernors- for upset stomach. I'm from Michigan too.
