What is the stupidest thing a clinician ever said to you?

The stupidest thing I remember is when I was manic and hadn't slept for one or two days and I went to the hospital in a different part of the country (that was where I had become manic and was admitted) at 9:00 am (the earliest possible time) to demand an appointment with a psychologist that was responsible for my treatment after being incorrectly diagnosed, when she said: "you don't need much sleep, now do you?". As if I generally sleep just 0 hours a night.

I used to spend time with my pdocs. But the past few years my Pdoc only writes the scripts and we're done.

I was in the hospital for a severe psychotic mixed episode and when I told the psychiatrist that I was having serious sleeping problems (now I was going on 3 days no sleep) he told me to just read a book. I told him that was BS and he said it had to be a boring book.
Thanks for this!

I saw a new Pdoc and was excited about seeing her as she came highly recommended. I started to tell her my problems and she flat out says, "What you you want ME to do about it?". I never went back.

I was suicidal and stopped into the university counseling center. " just think happy thoughts and you'll cheer right up"

That's just criminal negligence. I can't believe the ignorant, mean things said. To people who need help.

I don't know if this qualifies but it hit me as really strange ... after my ip and a month of iop ... (now my pdoc had only saw me a dozen times or so and I had only been on meds a month) ... he said he was ready to sign my disability papers ... blew my mind ... wish I knew what he saw in me ... because from my side everything was 100% better and I was ready to go back to work ... and I did ... seemed stupid at the time ...

Really??? So they almost voted bipolar out as possible diagnosis for me last week because they said: you still seem to control yourself a little when hypo and think that it might be stupid what you are up to do (even though you always end up doing it anyway) so you can't be bipolar.

So yes, you can?
