My son got out on Wed. He's still having delusions. He was refusing to take his zyprexa but we went to an intake today and the intake lady was able to talk him into staying on it until he gets in with a pdoc. Don't know when that will be yet. I hope he really meant it and takes it tonight.

But we went out to eat and went and got groceries yesterday. And today did the intake, (we had to wait a long time for it, it's first come first serve). And then I made a big dinner. I've noticed when he's busy he's not so much in his head.

So I'm just praying a lot and hoping he sticks to what he says. Wednesday was really hard bc he was really fighting even going to the intake. But today has been better.

Any prayers and good vibes would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Sending good thoughts your way. I hope your son can stick to a treatment plan and that the meds will work to end his delusions quickly. I hope he is able to stay busy and occupied as I know what a difference that makes. My son is still "off" but he's getting a little more reasonable daily and is working full time and going to meetings so he's staying occupied and it's helping him.

Congratulations on having your boy home Rose. I will see my son for the first time since the incident on Christmas Eve. He's coming to stay the night. I'm very happy, excited and also nervous. He's been begging to come home daily since it all started.

Keep us posted on his progress rose and take good care of yourself.

So glad you have your son home but not that he is still having delusions. Hopefully he will continue with his meds. You sound like an amazing Mum. He is lucky to have you. Sending love and positive vibes your way.

I'm so sorry you and your son are struggling so much.

My grandma has dementia and she has psychosis as well. The distraction thing works well for her too because it prevents her mind from wandering.

When it comes to meds, we don't try to remind her that she's experiencing psychosis. We used to do that, but it only agitated her, and then she was less likely to take her meds. (She thought we were lying to her.) What REALLY helped us was reminding her about the other symptoms her meds (Haldol and Zoloft) helped with. For example, her delusions would cause lots of anxiety and they would affect her ability to focus. So instead of talking to her about her psychosis, we talked to her about the other benefits of her meds. We never *lied* to her about her psychosis, and we never *lied* about the meds treating her psychosis; we just focused on the other aspects that the meds treated. Maybe that will help you out? Also, we only talked to her when she was distracted, like when she was watching TV. It prevented her psychosis from affecting our discussion.

Yes, I'm going to try that. But he just wants to be put on citalopram for his anxiety. But yes keeping him busy works. Thanks for the suggestions.

So he took the zyprexa last night yay!!! The only problem is he works on the day he's scheduled with the therapist on next Wednesday. It will be only his 3rd day back. Hoping they let him have it off or he can trade shifts. They have him scheduled for days all week next week.

I'm doing ok through this. It's been hard I've been really worried but thank god I'm stable on the right meds.

Thanks everyone for the support.

As far as the anxiety is caused by psychosis (however mild or strong), he really shouldn't use anxiolytics like benzodiazepines (especially those). The core of the problem is treated with antipsychotics (and there isn't really much else).

Citalopram is an AD...

He's had anxiety and depression in the past so that's what he thinks is wrong with him. He thinks the weed created some psychosis but now that he's quit he doesn't believe he needs aps anymore...

I'm terribly sorry: it is. Anxiolytics, like SSRIs . Atypical antipsychotics are (generally) also antidepressants and in many ways better ones than many if not all "real" ones.

And maybe after some (short) time he may indeed not need them anymore. He has a point.

I hope he will have recovered soon and all the best to you.

I'm sorry that they didn't keep him until the delusions were gone but I'm glad he's home and taking his meds. I know it's hard to watch your child go through this but you're holding up really, really well. Good job distracting him. When do you find out when his appointments are? Is he getting a T? T's are essential in med compliance for me.

Yes he has a t appt on Wednesday. But he's scheduled to work. Ugh! One of my sisters who's really cold told me he should work and not ask for the day off or he could be fired. But it's really important he keeps his appt bc its a step further in getting him in with a pdoc. Idk what to do... It will only be his 3rd day back.

He might be able to switch times but the lunch won't work. He'll need at least 2 hours off and that's if my nephew gives us a ride...

Is he eligible for FMLA? That would let him take the time off that he needs for appointments as he gets adjusted.
