And yea I've had some real winners over the years myself. Not alone there. One pdoc last year prescribed me a stimulant when I'm not even ADHD and it had been written all over my file that i had a substance abuse problem. I ended up abusing them. Badly. And because of the mood swings the abuse caused, I lost my job. Finally a new pdoc took me off them because i was so anxious and wound up all the time. Because of the horrible abuse I did with them, my dopamine levels plummeted from not having a phetamine anymore and i fell into an extremely deep dark depression. Yes I'm the addict so maybe I am to blame. But if only that dr would of took 2 seconds to glance at my file he should of known what I'd end up doing with them. Or maybe he's so careless that he did know and gave them to me anyways. I'll always wonder that.
Absolutely not your fault! Doc didn't do his due diligence and prescribed irresponsibly. That's a horrible experience. I hope you have someone good now. Please know you're not alone. I can't say much more, but I get it. ❤

My worst was a res, I broached the subject of a possible BPD dx that was missed, and how if I do have it, I want them to refer me to DBT ( provided by the Psych hospital and you need a referral to get in) he basically told me there's no way I have a BPD dx as well, because a borderline personality would never admit to having issues, much less want to work on them

I replied with "so because I'm intelligent, self aware and willing to put in the work to get better, that automatically means I cant have BPD? Show me where the criterion for diagnosis states this"

He must have consulted my T after that convo because he added BPD to my file, and the referral was made.

Oh and this was also the idiot who blatantly refused to take me off lithium, and instead wanted to add propanalol for tremors, even after I made it clear the shakes were the least of my problems. I had a 30 second memory and felt my IQ dropping daily. He said he's never heard of lithium making people stupid, so he's not changing my meds.

Oh and he lied in my file and said I loved lithium and that it was my idea to try it, when in reality it took 3 months for me to agree to taking it!!!

Ugh, so that's how I ended up flushing all my meds down the toilet in 2011.

I'm trying monotherapy now, just depakote, (altho I have emergency ativan that I really never use.

I hate to admit it, but I think the depakote is helping, because I still have a job.

I bet if we all had medical degrees we'd be better pdocs than the ones who've treated us.

Amen to that. I often know more about a med than my resident, fresh out of school pdoc. Last pdoc always told me how knowledgeable I am. I do have history in the medical field too though.
