Hey flutterby, sorry to hear you're feeling bad. I felt like that yesterday and had a lot of anxiety at work and was constantly almost breaking into tears.

When I got home I just started crying and went on for half an hour and it worked wonders. Sometimes it is necessary to let all the pain out. Another thing I do when I am depressed is watch movies that distract me from my dark feelings and I listen a lot to audio books. When the pain is to big it helps to escape to invented worlds, even though obviously at some point you gotta go back to reality.

I don't know what time 3:30 AM is in Oz, but it's 4:30 AM here in the States. Sleep deprivation can really mess with your brain chemistry. I can also realte to the pain of depression. What I'll do is put on a pair of headphones & listen to some mellow music without lyrics (nature sounds are also good). They calm me down.

An example of nature sounds (there are other nature sounds if you do a YouTube):

Try watching a movie you've seen before. Like an old one.
It could soothe you back to happier time.

It seems trite, but I always feel better after a shower. I know how difficult it can be to get in there, but it does good. Best of luck, and keep posting. There's a lot of support here.

Definitely...It might be that you're not yet not familiar with some of the tools to distract yourself. Taking a shower is a great one...Although I share bioChE's opinion that it's sometimes difficult to climb in the shower when feeling poorly.
