So I'm going to my friends wedding and rehearsal dinner. When should I take my meds? Do I bring it in a plastic container or pill box? How do you do it? Their will be alcohol and I am gonna drink.

I would take a pill box. I actually found a small pill box at Walgreens that almost looks like a small makeup case so it doesn't seem so obvious what might be inside.

When do you usually take your meds? They make keychain med containers if you want to try that. (The only thing about them is you don't want to keep the pills in there for days because they'll turn to powder.) I'd take your meds at the same time you usually take them. I don't think its smart to drink on your meds. Maybe a beer or something light, but the effects of the alcohol go up when your have meds with it and vise versa so you really want to be careful mixing alcohol with medication.

I skip my meds if I "have" to drink.

Missing one dose is much safer, than mixing meds and alcohol.
Thanks for this!

I agree, I don't take my meds if I'm drinking. I don't know how good that is but that's what I do. Especially if I'm on any sedating meds.

One possibility would be to take them when you get home and can fall into bed.

I think it also depends on how much you plan on drinking. If you're planning on getting plastered, I'd do the above. Otherwise, I'd bring a small pill container (CVS, etc.) and maybe excuse yourself to a bathroom to take them (at least I'm embarrassed to take them in front of others and do that at work whenever possible).

I would skip the meds as Lia mentioned.

Better safe than sorry.

If I have more than a couple beers or if I'm drinking anything besides beer I skip my evening meds.

So I'm not going to bring them. Unless take Fridays in the am instead of evening? Or just forget to take it and start again when I come back Sunday?

I would skip the am dose , but that's depending on what meds you take of course.

Even thought while drinking it feels fantastic, alcohol is actually a depressant.

Have fun and be safe

If you are travelling, it would be good to bring some just in case anything were to delay your return -- weather, flights, car trouble etc. Better to be prepared and not need them than to find yourself in a stressful delay situation without your meds.
Thanks for this!

You could not drink and take your meds instead.

Edit: Sorry. I'm no fun.

Definitely take your meds with you, and keep them in the original prescription bottles. When you're traveling it would be rather uncomfortable having to explain to anyone (cop who pulled you over, TSA, etc.) why you're carrying a C2 substance like Klonopin with you in a baggie, pill box, or whatever. Seriously, that's where addicts get in trouble; they don't have the OG pill bottles with them, therefore they must be a junkie. In that case it's guilty until proven innocent, and good luck getting your psychiatrist on the phone immediately to verify you're legit.

Drink whatever you choose to, you're an adult and can make informed decisions. Take your meds right before bed so mixing them with alcohol won't be an issue. Some people are superstitious about the mix, but most of the effects of mixing aren't physiological - they're psychological.

You know alcohol is a depressant and may lower your mood the next day. Nothing you're on is going to hurt you if you fall asleep after you mix them - I know you're on the Klonopin PRN, that's the only one I wouldn't take and you're not likely to have anxiety after drinking at a party like a wedding anyway. As for the others it's more important to keep your blood levels intact to guard the best against any mood effects of the alcohol/hangover.
