what have you done (in the past week, month, what ever) for others?

I post this because I gave away some clothes to the homeless charity, and I thought we could start a positive thread like this showcasing the stuff we've done for others or stuff that we've helped out with

I've supported a friend of mine who deals with extreme anxiety, she texted me the other night when she was not in a good place, I did my best to talk her down and she said it helped her out. She's always there for me so it was nice to return the favor.

i'm glad you have her

I feel the same sometimes about my friend with PTSD

it's good to help her and support her, especially when you yourself feel aweful

During the past few weeks I've trained to become a facilitator for a NAMI peer support group and I've been appointed to my local mental health board.

I started volunteering at the local library two hours on Friday afternoons. I get to meet people, explore art, talk with some local artists, and help out an institution I really believe in.

My wife was feeling down, so I got 100 Post It notes and wrote something nice or romantic on each one and covered our walls, mirrors, microwave etc. with them. She was so taken that she was completely in heaven for the whole time she found them.

I have an older friend I talk to a lot. We're both Christian, so we also pray with and for each other.

Anyway...its a good friendship. When we were first friends, it was all about her supporting me, because I was so far gone and just...destroyed, really.

But, yesterday, she needed somebody to talk to about family issues and such, and I was there for her. It felt good on a number of levels. Its crazy how isolated people in modern American society are, even people who work, go to school, go to church, volunteer, etc. I'm beginning to see that one can be around lots of people and still be completely, truly alone. Its sad. :-(

But yeah. That's what I did yesterday.

I contacted my sister every day to check in on her since she's having issues with depression and anxiety. She was in a great mood for 2-3 months after coming out of the hospital for a week where she detoxed from Vicodin that she was taking without abuse for a stomach pain that mystified doctors.

Also, I stuck up for someone who was being maliciously attacked online.

I've donated nearly $1m in jades, bronzes, ceramics, paintings, and sculpture to the Honolulu Museum of Art over the past 10 years. The process is arduous and political: every donation must be professionally authenticated and appraised, approved by the museum's board and vetted by the IRS. I do it because the objects I handle should be in the public domain. We're also de-bulking as part of a long-term exit strategy: we'll leave this island carrying single suitcases.

I stay away from people. Sometimes that is the biggest gift a person can receive. In this way, I am very generous more often than not.

I like to help people get where they want to go. It's almost a compulsion, and it's kind of weird, because I VERY much keep to myself and am notorious for scarcely making eye contact(!!)

When I drove, I'd get turned around, lost and melt down in the confusion. It's almost like I don't want others to feel that horrible spinning disorientation. Also, I am (secretly) inordinately proud of having this hard-won knowledge. Special emphasis on transit. I just freakin' love helping people use it!

Too long to mention. I'm a true giver. It's a sickness that I can't control.
Never have received anything from anybody. Not friends, family or the gov.
Only Mother helped quite a few times.
I've given away even cars. Not one, a few, etc. God gave the opportunity to give.

I usually do donations and volunteering with my church (when I'm not isolating due to anxiety). I also donate to causes online.

I wanted to do volunteering for the hospital that's down the road but my anxiety kiboshed that.

I started a new scarf. It gets very cold here, and we have a large homeless population.
I knit warm scarves and toques for them.

I donated food to a homeless man who lives about a mile from us. He keeps this little sleeping bag and market cart full of stuff. Rain or shine, he is always there.

Been calling my mum almost everyday to make sure she's alright, she lives far away, on her own & I know she gets down sometimes so I try to make her laugh more. I'm trying to spend as much time as I can with my grandparents so they remember I love them & appreciate them, also trying to help out around the house a little more to make their lives a bit easier (cooking meals a couple of times a week & cleaning up).
