My CPN (Community Psychiatric Nurse) has just said he is thinking of discharging me. I have been with him for 6 years. I'm doing great according to him. I guess I am but I just didn't think this day would come. He says maybe in the next 2-3 months. I see him monthly. I'm not going to lie I'm heartbroken and quite emotional.

On one hand I'm stable yay go me but on the other hand it's so scary and I don't know what to do :'(

Always makes me wonder: Do they think we're going to be stable forever without a relapse?

I know! I just always thought I would see him even if it went to every 2-3 months. I already see my Psychiatrist every 6 months. Least for the time being I have my Community Worker weekly and Psychologist weekly. Feel s little overwhelmed thinking about it

Can you let your CPN know how uncomfortable you are with this and talk about just going to 2-3 month appointments for now? Just be honest about how upset and scared you are...big hugs

Thanks hopeless2015, I'm not very good at speaking up for myself. So that might be a little bit hard for me to do unfortunately. Think he might be needed for more sever cases.... I'm no longer in danger

I agree with hopeless. Have a chat with you CPN and let him know you'd prefer to taper appointments to every 2-3 months first.

I have read you have trouble speaking up. This is an opportunity to self-advocate while working on your interpersonal skills.

An appointment taper makes more sense that to simply discontinue appts.

I hope you can find a way to express yourself to your CNP.
You'll be letting him know he's important to your overall care.

Thanks Wild Coyote,

Means a lot to me. I have a month until I see him again so I guess I have a month to talk myself into this and talk myself through what I'm going to say to him

I'm sorry... as I also live in the uk I am not surprised

I have had very few positive experiences with the NHS (see my thread) and can only offer empathy

I was suddenly informed that "therapy" was over some time ago... whether private or not, this appears the "norm" over here

I have found the tendency is to either say they can't help us, and blame us, or to (wrongly) say we are cured.

If they were as all knowing as they claim to be maybe the mental health in this country wouldn't be so bad

Hey Fuzzybear,

I really can't fault my support team. They have always been very good with me and I have never been in the hospital. This is the first time I have had any issues at all.

I was told by a fellow sufferer that in order to get a CPN you need to be sever case. So I guess I was but now I am better??

Yes I think this is probably true

I'm happy for you that you haven't had any issues with the support before

I'm not great at speaking up for myself either, so here's another thought... Write down your thoughts and bring them with you. You can either use it to help you remember what you want to say or you could just hand it to him for reading.

I'm glad you are doing so well. It would be nice if they could taper or go to more spaced appointments though. Good luck!
Thanks for this!
