I gained a lot of weight on psych meds. I also have high cholesterol and type 2 diabetes now. I've been taking Metformin for diabetes and eating a low carb diet. So far I'm losing weight.

As a consequence of the whole thing, I eventually fell asleep at 4-5 PM and woke up at 12:30 AM. That became my body's baseline for when it wanted to sleep for several days, a total reversal of normalcy for me. When I took Rexulti (1 tablet, lowest dose) and Lexapro (5 mg) together at the usual time (around 1:30 AM), instead of falling asleep, I was insomniac and utterly miserable.

Originally, I would fall asleep after taking Rexulti and wake up feeling so refreshed. It was pretty good at that time. But when the surgery flipped my sleep schedule upside down, it became intolerable while not being able to sleep through the first 4-6 hours it was in my system. We tried taking Lexapro and Rexulti at different times and the result was still that Rexulti was being the culprit.

To be clear though, after getting used to it, Rexulti was pretty beneficial when I slept properly after taking it so it's not a bad drug. It was just completely awful and bizarre while being insomniac at night and having it newly in my system.

I was only on it for a little over 4 weeks so discontinuation was not a protracted long experience. Hopefully that helps answer your question!

I'm in the club too lol.
Ten years ago it was Zyprexa that made me put on weight. I lost it by jogging
Then on Seroquel, wasn't so bad as I was working a physically demanding job.
When I worked in a kitchen I snacked on leftovers and it all went to my stomach. Nightmare! I can't seem to shift it.
They must interfere with metabolism too. My meds make me more out of breath and dehydrated so exercising is harder. I try swim 3-4times a week but jogging is impossible now.
I guess I have to make sacrifices. But where there's a will there's a way. Going to try and diet now I've started exercising, feeling inspired

Wellbutrin has made me an insomniac in the past. I was up all night and not tired in the least. I take my Rexulti at 11 a.m. so I am activated during the afternoon. I could take it with my morning meds, I guess, but I just keep it in my purse and take it wherever I am at 11. Its a quirk.

I did not lose any weight on Metformin (500 mg), but I wonder now if I should try 1000 mg... I will talk to my physician assistant about it. I stopped metformin since I have normal blood sugar and it was not working as a weight loss drug.

I am now titrating Zonegran up, to prevent migraines. I am already forgetting words! Its beneficial side effect is weight loss. We will see what happens. I am fearful that if I am forgetting words now @1 pill a night, what will happen at the target dose of @5 pills a night?

I quip though that if I end up living a long life, it will be thanks to bipolar - this is because I am not genetically predisposed to age-related weight gain and my current exercise volume is due to the bipolar-related weight gain. Plus, exercise helps mood stability. I do not think I'd be doing any exercise were I not ill/obese.
