I had thought for years that our community needed a support group for people with MI to gather and find solutions to problems and be there to support each other. We have a town of about 13,000. I finally contacted N.A.M.I. and was trained with another friend to be facillitaters and we had a meeting last night . I was hypomanic and pretty much trippin, everyone else was suicidal. It turned out to be an honest, open, connected experience and everyone loved it. I didn't think I could do it I was trippin so hard with this manic stuff but I shared about it and took a zanax and it all went well!!!

Interesting note-the town Psychiatrist attended and talked about his sufferings with BP. Amazing. He's several of our pdocs there! Then he went on to say he's moving to a different practice so we will no longer have him. I'm sad about that-he'is the best ever and my meds are all mixed up-going to his office today as a walk-in.

Moral to the story Never give up-there is someone out there who is worse off than me who needs my help and when I give back I forget about my problems and begin to flow with life again.

Hi zijax I am glad NAMI is helping you! NAMI Connection groups (I've attended for about 4 years) have given me my life back. In fact, I also went through the NAMI facilitator training a few weeks ago and facilitated my first group yesterday. My regular group assignment will start in March in a town not too far from my town. I absolutely LOVE being a facilitator.

Btw, I'm so sorry the pdoc is leaving, that sucks.

*We will never give up hope*

That is excellent, zijax!! Thanks so much for the inspiring post -- AND for taking on the facilitating so all this good could happen!!!!

That's pretty wild about the psychiatrist. I'm sorry to hear he's moving. Makes you think. It'd be harder as a known professional to avail yourself of certain kinds of help -- like groups -- that we might kind of take for granted.

Been there! It felt kind of strange. SO up.
(I prefaced with apologizing in advance for any inapproriate laughter that might happen -- I was VERY giggly-- or if I had to go out. BF had objected to my so much as driving there, but I was so thrilled to be thrilled that I just HAD to go! Lol. I only had to be sure to make no incidental contact, because I felt they'd get zapped by all the "electricity" running through me. )

Again, good for you, zijax! This really puts a smile on my face. I'm so glad for you.
