Hello cindy: I'm sorry I cannot define these terms for you. Hopefully other members will be able to be of some assistance. However, since this is your first post here on PC... to PsychCentral… from the Skeezyks! May the time you spend here be of benefit.

PsychCentral is a great place to get information as well as support for mental health issues. The more you post, & reply to other members’ posts, the more a part of the community you will become. Plus there are social groups you can join & chat rooms where you’ll be able to connect with other PC members in real time (once your first 5 posts have been reviewed & approved.) Lots of great stuff! So please keep posting!

Major depressive disorder is depression that meets the medical criteria for depression (sometimes called clinical depression). Single episode means you've only had one round of it. In partial remission means you are improving and some symptoms are gone but not all of them (which is full remission).

Have you had mania or hypomania? That's needed for bipolar an usually once you have a bipolar diagnosis you don't have a depression diagnosis anymore because depression is part of bipolar.
