I think most of us have done a lot of research on mood disorders, meds, therapy, etc

--

I def knew more about BP and mood disorders than my first therapist. She was totally inept. She kept telling me that I didn't know what depression was, and that there was "no way I'm depressed". But mood disorders weren't her specialty, so I give her that. She was still dumb though.

I think I knew more about BP than my 2nd therapist too. I had to teach him a few things, but he was an asshole. Thank god I'm not with him anymore.

I think my current pdoc knows more about BP than I do. I think he knows more about meds too, but sometimes I feel I'm more educated about certain meds than he is.

My 1st pdoc was an idiot. She had no idea how to handle me.
My 2nd pdoc knew more then me but he knew I would object to it so he had me on viibryd instead.
My 3rd pdoc was no non-since I took my meds or else. He over medicated me.
My 4th pdoc was building trust with me but left as she was *****y to everyone else
My 5th podoc I meet Tuesday.
All my pdocs besides pdoc 1 have been good, competent. My husband hasn't had as well of luck.

T 1 I new more about ED then she did.
T 2 wasn't smart but helped me with reality testing
T 3 was scared of me, knew nothing about BP
T 4 has seen me 6x since August.

No. I think both t and pdoc are very knowledgeable about how to treat BP. I wouldn't go to anyone who wasn't.

My T thinks she knows a lot about BP, but in reality she only knows the basic stuff you can find everywhere. My pdoc I'm not really sure I've only seen him 3 times so far but he seems failry knowledgeable.

They have more theory. I have more practice.

Not even close. It'll be a year at least before I even have the right vocabulary to start reading journal articles with comprehension. Not to say that I don't know some things about myself that we've not talked about, or may be relevant in the future...

My current pdoc is very knowledgeable about bipolar, more so than my beloved Dr. Awesomesauce who treated me for four and a half years. I'm learning quite a lot from him. But, like pirilin said above, he's got more theory, and I've got more practice.

Some of the Pdocs I've been assigned to knew nothing about treating human beings. In other words what they knew was books and had no idea how to apply actual symptoms. Most however most got a passing in knowledge of BP symptoms but non pass in how to deal with those symptoms because they over did the meds.

Therapists did better in the knowledge department.

I know more about myself than the doctors do and that seems to be something they don't get.

I'd guess that I have a little more book knowledge because I've been reading more stuff. He's not very scientific or academic, but he knows more about actual bipolar and what it looks like in people's lives. I really value his knowledge.

My pdoc is very intelligent and has many years of experience.
I am very, very fortunate to have him handling both meds and therapy.

My first pdoc was more about pushing meds than anything I think. He knew quite a bit, but I just didn't feel like he was listening to me. My first t was an old crotchety woman who I'm sure meant well, but we just didn't click. Having her tell me I needed AA was essentially the straw that broke the camels back. I love my current pdoc and t. They really do take time to listen, even with their time constraints. I also like that I can call them whenever and will typically get a call back the same day, or at least within 24 hours. Even though I've done lots of research on my own, I still feel that my pdoc and t are more in tune with BP and other MIs than I ever could be.

My psychiatrist knows as much as me prolly because she's also got bipolar disorder.

My therapist is a ****ing idiot. I'm going to sue the ***** for malpractice.
