Do you ever involuntarily tap, shake or rock from trying to prevent yourself from acting out during an episode?

I hope that question makes sense.

(Trigger)
Ex, I've kind of been feeling a little depressed lately. I tried talking to my husband about the way I'm feeling and he doesn't get it of course. It just causes an argument therefore starting the racing thoughts. As a result of the racing thoughts which are negative I feel these urges to break things, scream, run away, pull my hair out, or self harm. It's like my skin is crawling because I won't allow myself to act any of these things out. As a result I can't help but tap myself shake and rock back and forth. But it's like involuntary twitches. This is not the first time I've experienced this.

Also I would like to state that I am not in danger of hurting myself or anyone else. Thank you.

Hi. I am a male and I do understand. I grew up under a mother who had similar episodes, so I can relate to your issues. It's unfortunate that your husband isn't open to listening to you about this. He is your mate, so he should be open to listening.

Well, I start to move my legs up and down when I get very irritable for example, to avoid leaving the room because I cannot stand the people around me...helps me to get some of the tension out
Thanks for this!

I once tapped a knife over and over on a restaurant table because I was so wound up. Is this what you mean?

Idk, it's like I feel this build up inside myself to break stuff or scream and the result of me restraining from doing it is tapping, shaking or rocking involuntarily.

I see you currently are not on meds, even though you have been in the past.

This sounds like it could be quite distressing.
Could meds help?

Probably but I do not have insurance for that right now unfortunately.

I clench my fists and bounce my legs to keep myself from acting the way the way the bipolar urges me to act. It's how I keep myself from getting up and walking away, yelling, crying, whatever.

Those things are one of the first clues for my therapist and pdoc that I'm manic or mixed. They usually start before I'm fully aware of how bad it is and are a good warning system. But I'm sure it annoys most people.

Usually I start tapping my foot or rocking when I'm nervous. My husband asks me about it. I haven't done it a whole lot lately.

I'm constantly agitated so yeah I'm always tapping my feet or what have you just to cope. For me it's a mania thing.
