Since mood stabilizers are typically prescribed with anti-depressants to keep bipolar people from going manic.. is it possible they keep them from working in between periods of mania and CAUSE depression?

Like I mentioned in another post.. I think the Wellbutrin is causing me to rapid cycle. I've never been so up and down before. It's hard to deal with it properly because I've felt so good between the depression. And today I started feeling great again... I really should just stop meds I think.

That is why I asked to try the Wellbutrin. I was going with lamictal mono-therapy and went into a really bad, dangerous depression in December. I don't think it caused it.. but it did not do anything to prevent that one.

Makes me wonder sometimes how the hell it is that there are drugs that take care of the mania, but not ones that take the depression away totally. It's not fair.

I don't know about the US but in the UK they don't seem to care about the depression. Unless you are planning suicide they do nothing particularly.
If you are showing signs of mania they are all over it, increase appointments, more likely to go inpatient (if there is such a thing as available beds) etc etc. Obviously depression with suicidal ideation isn't a worry. They just don't want you to get manic. It's stupid.

Mixed mania scares people. I think they're more use to depression.
