Best: Abilify - Takes away a lot of the psycosis but has no side effects.
Worse: Depokote- I felt like I was trapped in my body

Best- risperidone. I got much better quite quickly after starting it.

Worst- clomipramine. Gained a bunch of weight and it didn't do anything for me.

Best - Lamictal, it virtually stopped my irritability and deep depression.

Worst - Luvox & Trazodone, both turned me a drooling zombie.

Best: Clozapine. Has stabilized me when nothing else would
Worst: Geodon. Made me vomit, gave me insomnia, and didn't help at all

Best - Lamictal? It's the only med that hasn't given me trouble, but I have no idea how well it works for me, honestly. Seems to have gotten rid of most of my irritability?

Worst: Abilify. Did jackshit for me. Was basically a sugar pill. I mean, it kinda worked? But I barely got anything useful out of it.

The best and worst meds have changed over the years, for me. It used to be SSRI's that helped most; they don't really do much anymore. Klonopin was fabulous for the first 2 years, until I built up a tolerance to it. At this time Latuda is helping me most.

Best: Abilify. 5mg. I substituted the lithium with it. So far so good.
Worst: Trazodone and lithium. Athought Lithium worked, the side effects are unbearable.
Trazodone should be out of the market IMAO.

Best: Lamictal: helped enormously with depression and irritability
Best: Seroquel ONLY when manic, otherwise makes me a zombie
So-so: Klonopin: but I'm only allowed an extra 1mg 10 pills/mo and it's the extra 1mg that helps the most.
Worst: Any AD (I tried several before being diagnosed)
Maybe-worst: Abilify: doesn't help with depression or anxiety, though may be helping in staving off mania, as I haven't had a manic episode in a couple of years since taking it.

Best: Seroquel (as much as I don't like some of the side effects, it's the one thing that helps with sleep and mania, including mixed mania), Klonopin

Worst: Zoloft, Wellbutrin
Thanks for this!

Best: Zyprexa, even though it made me gain weight initially. I've been on it for the past three years, and it's kept the mania away.

Worst: Wellbutrin. It made me manic and psychotic. I'm still making amends for that episode. 'Nuff said.

Best for my main medicine, an antipsychotic, has been Latuda. It's kept me stable for a number of years now. I don't know how it would work to bring me down from a crisis; it might not be strong enough. But if keeps me from having episodes in the first place, so much the better. Few side effects.

In honorary categories: propranolol for effectively eliminating the one big bad of Latuda which is akathisia.

Wellbutrin for depression, and low dose Seroquel for sleep. Oh, and Xanax PRN but at a dose of 2mg which I know is high.

Useless drugs: all the SSRI's--didn't even give me side effects. Seroquel at antipsychotic doses: weight gain and really painful joint and muscle pain--the reason I had to stop it. I quit Abilify for akathisia--couldn't find an effective dose of Cogentin which didn't screw up my eyesight. Maybe propranolol would have worked.

Best: Latuda so far.
Worst: Depakote. Did nothing for my depression. Also Geodon as it prolonged my QT into the danger zone.
Thanks for this!

Can't choose, they all suck in their own wonderful way. I guess the easiest to tolerate and for effectiveness is Clonazepam, but then comes the addiction. Abilify has been a winner with almost no side effects.
