I'm putting my house on the market. My son doesn't live here anymore, and my daughter will be married in July; so I don't need anything bigger than a small apartment. And owning my own home has caused me a lot of stress. It's kind of a relief, but it's kind of scary. It'll feel weird to not have my kids with me anymore. I will only have myself.

It will be an adjustment. My husband and I will likely need to downsize at some point. My sons left home awhile back. A therapist I had at the time had an amusing take on the empty nest. She said, "At least you can go around naked in your house now."

It will have positives, shortandcute. Just look for them!

It can be tough doing something new and you have two big events-kids all moved out and selling your house. It could be very positive, but you're right. It's scary.

It could be exciting. I downsized and decorating a new space was fun, even on a budget.

If you get a two bedroom, the kids can still come to visit, or friends.

Sending you good thoughts. Have you looked to see what kind of apartments are available that look like a good fit?
Thanks for this!

That is major stress. It will all work out but it will be tough. Good luck and be extra kind to yourself right now.

For me, empty nest has been very hard. If I lived in a big house, a house my kids had grown up with and then left, empty nest would be even more painful.

I think you're doing a smart thing by selling your house and moving to your own apartment. Good luck!
