I bumped the Wellbutrin a few weeks ago due to a depression that hit me. I started feeling better it seemed like immediately. But I wake up this morning bursting with energy... the crawling out of my skin type. Too many thoughts, anxious feeling... the kind that I almost feel like I either need to run.. or just lay down and close my eyes to calm down. I wonder now if it's the increased Wellbutrin.. or the fact that it has become sunny, longer days and not below freezing.. not to mention an amazing Aurora Borealis show out of my bedroom window last night.

Ha.. now that I'm getting this down in words I realize it's a silly thread. I'm sure the Wellbutrin is amplifying the hypomania that always hits me this time of year.

Maybe a better title would be .. 'Welcoming Spring with all my heart!'

Not a silly thread at all. Three weeks ago I started Wellbutrin to counter a low mood and immediately had symptoms like you're describing - increased energy, anxiety, insomnia, etc. I tried to work through the side effects, but eventually had to go off the med this last weekend. Interestingly enough, things haven't yet really returned to baseline. I'm still having anxiety and insomnia, where I didn't deal with these before starting the WB.

Good luck.

Okay... Good to know. I guess the main reason I asked was because of the delayed reaction. I've been on Wellbutrin for 3 months or so.. but increased the dosage 2 weeks ago. Maybe it takes time for the increase to kick in? But like I said.. I'm probably going a little hypo despite or in addition to the Wellbutrin effect. The signs are here. Singing and you can track me by the trail of stuff I'm leaving all over the place.

If you were taking the Wellbutrin XL formulation, it takes about 4 days to clear your system. That might be why you've not returned to baseline yet. I hope things get better!

I recently (unauthorizedly, yes, bad) bumped WB up too, and realized yesterday I better drop it back down. Too much agitation. Psych wants to put me on xl, not necessarily to up. Appt. tomorrow. Will discuss then.

It did have a bit of lag time before it felt different (in this case bad).

Singing and leaving a trail of stuff. Lol, so true! (That was me awhile back. Love me a happy hypo...)

What you've described is what I experience when starting Wellbutrin, even at a tiny 150mg dose, so I imagine increasing it would cause an increase in the symptoms you've mentioned. Spring is pulling me up, while my life stress is pulling me down so the combo is very wicked but it would be worse if spring were not here as I'd be in bed nonstop which doesn't seem to be the most productive use of my limited energy reserves. I'm sorry you are struggling and hope you find something that helps you out.

Wellbutrin greatly increased my anxiety and caused some agitation. At the time I tried taking it along with...I think Zoloft, I didn't realize that I might be bipolar II. So I'm thinking it might have triggered hypomania/mixed state for me. I also seem to be having that reaction to Abilify that I started a month ago, unfortunately...

I didn't notice an increase in energy but that may be because I'm taking so many medications that have opposite effects. Wellbutrin is the first antidepressant my doctor takes me off of (out of 4) when I'm hypomanic so I think you're onto something. Hope you start feeling better soon.
