I'm kinda disappointed. I think Seroquel XR is increasing my cholesterol.
![]() Is there anything that can be done about this? Will cholesterol medication counteract it, or do I have to stop taking the med? I am not gaining weight on this drug, so my cholesterol increase is independent of weight. I have low blood sugar (below normal), so I don't think it's affecting my blood sugar. BUT, if you have experience with blood sugar issues, I'd like to hear to hear it in case Seroquel is actually increasing my blood sugar. (Again, I don't think it is, but who knows.) I'm getting a blood test on Monday. |

APs have given me problems with cholesterol and blood sugar. Unlike you, though, I've also gained a lot of weight.
I'm on Metformin now for diabetes and it has also helped me lose weight. I also watch my diet (low carb and what carbs I do take are high-fiber). |

It's a good idea to check with labs.
Glad you are having labs done on Monday. ![]() WC |

metformin helps some people. I read some abstracts online of small studies in which they used high doses of high potency antioxidants and that helped (alpha lipoic acid, I think).
Seroquel can be rough. A switch a roo might be one option. I think the older tranquilizers generally don't cause as many metabolic problems, and some can be surprisingly tolerable if dosed carefully. There's always abilify and the newer d2 partial agonists, latuda, geodon... Anyway, I'm glad you're getting labs done. Good to stay on top of these things, and it sounds like you have a thorough doctor. |

My cholesterol and triglycerides shot up after taking Seroquel, but has come back down with taking simvastatin and a low cholesterol diet. Seroquel and Effexor XR helps me to keep healthy, so I'm so relieved that I don't need to try a different treatment now. Your labs will give you good information.
