I visited with a friend recently and we were talking about guys and dating of course. My boyfriend is on the autism spectrum (aspergers to be exact)
And it's not odd to me at all. When I said I need to help her find a Guy she said "yeah, but someone slightly less autistic." It pisses me Off! Really? She has mental illness and works as peer support but she Said something like that?? I accept my boyfriend and all his quirks as a part of who he is just Like he accepts my bipolar as part of who I am.

This would upset me too. It seems callus. Or honest. Or both. I suppose that we are all entitled to choose who to be with, it just does not mean you should say things like that. I am sorry for that

Oh and you know what, if someone were to say something like that regarding me and having bipolar, yea, that makes me angry!
-When I said I need to help her find a Guy she said "yeah, but someone slightly less bipolar." Yea, so uncool! |

I know it's mean, but she might not realize how it came across. I would ask her about it and tell her how you feel.

Your friend's remark was insensitive ( and lacked insight).
Are those usual attributes for her? Wonder if she's a tad jealous of your relationship with him? (Her comment seems like a "put down" to him.) Either way, so sorry. You and your boyfriend deserve better. ![]() WC |

I really don't know if she's jealous. Maybe that's all it is. I see nothing wrong about someone having autism.

I am sorry to hear that, I would be upset too, I dont like when people judge other people especially when they have a mental illness, I have been judged for my mental illness and its cruel and hurtful

I dont know why people cut down and judge others, Is it to make themselfs feel better about themselfs, We dont like being sick as it is let alone being made to have shame labelled with it, We already have enough shame, People are just cruel

I'm sorry you had this experience-especially grom a friend. For me,it hurts more from friends and family than ignorant strangers. I would be mad ,too-she knows you/mental illness, she works with MI pts,has a social work degree!come on! I do think she is jealous and cannot see beyond a label.
I have dated people in my life-those that are supposdly normal/healthy,etc-some/not all -were more judgemental/concerned about themselves/how it looks if they are not dating one of the perfet people/insensitive. I have found that the -not perfect people-in my life -are more caring/compassionate/understanding. I do know some regular people who are awesome, too |
