My ongoing quest to question by bipolar DX....

I realize that hypomania is a spectrum.. but how much sleep do y'all typically get when hypomanic? I've never gone through multiple days of no sleep.. but I do go through periods of 4-6 (3 rarely).. followed by periods of 7-8 after a week or so of that.. and then back to the same pattern. Not a HUGE difference. But when I'm depressed the longer sleep is sustained in addition to SO wanting to nap during the day or sit on the couch and read and be a slug.

It really varies for me, but in general I find I sleep around 4-6 hours most nights during hypomania. Sometimes more, sometimes less. In normal mood, I sleep 6-9. I have a tendency to have an attitude in hypomania that "sleep is a waste of time."

This sounds like me. One thing that seems like a red flag to me is the staying up late. I'm NOT a night person and often get in bed around 9 or so (7 sometimes when depressed).. but sometimes I get caught up researching some new idea and I'm up to say.. 11.. but still up and my normal 4am - 5am. In the past, when drinking and partying, I would often be the last one to sleep or want to keep it going well after the bars closed.. or when my friends were done. Those seem like signals that something is up. But I never physically work late. It's more mental.. reading, computer research, marketing myself stuff. And the same for the very early morning.... I get up very early to read about the project I'm into or something like that. My actual shop can be so cold in the winter that I just don't want to go out there. Sometimes I do in the spring or early summer or fall or when I preparing for a show.. but that is when I'm really hopping on a project.

I normally sleep 8-10 hours per night. When hypomanic I sleep 5 hours or less. I just have too much to do, in my mind.

I do not have a lot of sleep issues. I usually just keep on and have crazy dreams when I am hypomanic. Sometimes I sleep 4-5 hours. When I am down it can be 8, 9, 10, whatever I can get away with.

I can usually sleep 4-6 hours when I'm hypomanic, maybe as much as 4 hours when manic. I've never been one to be awake for days at a stretch. My normal sleep is 8-9 hours per night when stable, and 10 or more when I'm depressed. But I do tend to stay up really late, sometimes as late as 3 AM, and that happens frequently; I take my meds at 9:30 PM every night, but they often don't kick in for hours. There's just too much going through my mind, plus I spend a lot of time on the Internet. It works though, because I don't get up until about 10 or 11. Nothing wrong with that, it's my normal circadian rhythm and I don't have to be anywhere early in the morning anyway.

I still sleep when hypomanic and even manic, just less (3-6 hours per night).
