So I'm currently trying to cut down and be on less meds possible. I'm looking for a AP for mania/mixed that can be taken PRN, just to calm me down. I get dysphoric when mixed/manic so I do need something.

I've taken Seroquel, Haldol, and Zyprexa PRNs at some point or another. Zyprexa and haldol were a bit better for calming me down whereas Seroquel just kinda makes me take a nap and I'm still revved up when I wake up.

Thanks I was actually thinking about haldol. I am on seroquel to sleep and without it I'm up all night.

Haldol PRN has helped me in the past. However if you're on Seroquel, some psychiatrists are hesitant to add a second AP to the mix.

My pdoc wants me on what she calls "adjunct" meds. I was on seroquel because it's for depression and geodon for mania. Right now I'm trying to taper off the geodon and I'm feeling horrible.

Why do you want off the geodon?

Because I started to get physically addicted. I'd take my dose and once it wore off I was sick as hell. I did searches and many people have the same issue so I'm tapering right now.

most of the meds are physically addictive after a while. that's why they recommend slow tapers. I feel the pdocs dont talk to much about this subject though.

Your very right. My pdocs would change my meds within a day and not think about the reproductions. So I went to 80mg two times a day. Now I'm at 60 and I plan on 40 next week. And I'm not feeling good.

You tend to destabilize really quick , same as me , it's awful.

Do you think dropping a medication is wise right now ?

I would think 2.5mg of zyprexa would work well.

I've been instructed to take an extra 5-10 mg of Zyprexa (in addition to my regular dose) whenever I'm revved up. It works great and I usually only need it for a few days.

Haldol works well for me. On 3x 2mg a day now, as very unwell, but I will use it PRN once stable and having a bad day as it works well for agitation. It's also weight neutral which is a bonus.

I know I was doing really good on lamictal. I'm a rapid cycler PRN AP??. I'm waiting for my pdoc to call me back and if she won't give me a prn then yea I'll go back to geodon and just ween off it some other time.
Thanks for this!

hi. i would think/assume a moderate-to-high potency tranquilizer would be OK as a PRN. perphenazine, haldol, zyprexa, even abilify or risperidone (risperidone is my prn).
